Title: Anybody shot a JDBerry Argos?
Post by: gonefishing600 on June 09, 2013, 08:03:00 PM
I just recieved my new Argos about a week ago, and all I can say is WOW.

Just wondering if anyone else has shot this bow, and compared it to other top of the line custom bows.

I really love my Argos.  My Argos was the first of my JD Berry bows.  It is a fast bow and really throws an arrow.

I was on the list for about 2 months, and then he had it at my door in another 5 to 6 weeks.

I posted I your thread in product reviews, but I have only owned and shot his straightlimbed models, but if the Argos is half as good as them then it must be fantastic!!!!

I have shot that model (Argos) for 22 years now. In my opinion it's the best bow on the market. I remember building my first bow off of Jame's form back in 1991 when James and I were partners and from that day on it has been my go to bow. The bow I shoot now for tournaments is only 40 pounds but you would not no it by watching the flight of the arrow. Its one flat shooting bow. Centex you ask what Jame's build time is and at the morning coffee table James said 4 to 5 months. Gonefishing 600 I can fully understand the pleasure you see in your new bow. It a bow that's just a pleasure to shoot. I have four bows of different weights, all off of that form. Happy shooting-----Dan Berry

For the best picture, Go to JDberryArchery.com. Pictures will not do this bow justice, it will not show it's perfomance. It's why I didn't post a picture.

The riser is bolivian Rose wood, limbs are bamboo core with Yew venners. Performance is Unbelievable! Shot it today for two hours, couldn't put it down, but started raining.

I'm already planning my next Berry.

Gone,
My Berry Misty Dawn is a cousin to that bow. Except I have red elm cores , yew back and belly, with Bolivian rosewood.

I know it's a looker.

I like the Argos mine has bacote veners and maple limbs. It couples well with a morning star!

I have been moving towards shooting the Vixen and the American style longbows but I will always keep, shoot and enjoy my Argos... sadly missed a big tom turkey with the bow this year (My fault - not the bows- LOL).  My bow is 48@28, bamboo libs faced w/Yew - Wenge riser.
The photo is a bit funny as it is upside down but there she is!  Very quick and very smooth.

This is one bow that deserves a place in the top 5 bows in the world. The cast and smoothness is unbelievable. I have been shooting my new Argos everyday for over a week now, and still can't believe the cast and overall performance of this bow.

I will get around to posting some pictures of my new Argos in the next few day.

Elk 77, you say you have 4 different Argos bows at different weights. Are all 4 of same length and what is your favorite length of Argos?

I've about narrowed my search for a longbow down to an Argos,Vixen, Super D or Mohawk in 66" or 68" and 45#. If I don't find a used one soon I'll have to pull the trigger on a new one and right now I'm thinking the Argos is the front runner.

I'm not a bowyer, but If I had to guess, I would say the secret is in his Trapezoid limbs. On the belly side of the limbs they are routed down on about a 45 degree angle, that must allow him to have thicker laminets and still be able to manage the desired draw weight. None of my other bows have this design.

I probably just made my self look like an idiot. But I would love for Mr. Berry to chime in on his design.

Gone,
The trap James puts on his limbs is just amazing. On my straightlimbed bows they almost look like the "D" crossection of the ELB. I too feel this adds to the "feel" his bows posses that just blows me away.  They just click.

I was going to order an Argos when he designed the Morningstar so I changed my order to that. And from James statements his Morningstar has as much speed and cast as some mild d/r bows. This I do not know as fact or fiction but what I do know is it shoots faster than my Game getter or identical poundage. To say I'm impressed is an understatement.

I had a viper I think it was built on the same form I got it from james in 88". It was [email protected] got a nice hog with it. James put it on his website. My vixen is my favorite a really sweet shooting bow.

I have been trying to pare down the number of bows I have, but I have been thinking I need to try one of James' longbows.  I'm saving up my pennies!

Today I was shooting my Blackwidow PLX 66" 46#@28", along with my Argos 64" 48#@28, and the Argos was so smooth and quite compared to the Widow. I love my Blackwidow, but I wouldn't trade my Argos for a Widow.
