Well after a long wait my VK is here. As promised I will get some pics up on here, with a little help.....
I got Chris to make me LB an his new recurve limbs.
Bow is absolutely beautiful - the riser is Macassar Ebony as is the LB limbs. The RC limbs are bocote.
64" 48@30 LB
62" 47@30 RC
I really have not had time to test this bow out yet so MUCH more to come - promise a good review.
Mike
beautiful bow but I would get rid of that bear weather rest and shoot it off the shelf. You will get amazing arrow flight with this bow shooting off the rest.
John
Beautiful bow! Congrats and hope it serves you well. :clapper:
Looking good beautiful woods!!
Nice
Great looking bow. Do you regularly use an elevated rest?
Macassar is one of my prefered woods. Now the review,Mike.
Man what a beauty Mike. My name should be up soon. I'm getting one with the recurve limbs. Chris said the new recurve limbs are really special. Let me know what you think of them.
Wow! That looks just like an Eagle Wing riser.... Good looking bow. Congrats.... :clapper: :clapper:
Nice. Did not know Chris used any other woods besides bacote or cocobolo.
Kirk, Wow! That looks just like an Eagle Wing riser.... Good looking bow. Congrats.... [clapper] [clapper]
I know you mean well bro and that is a beautiful bow but lots of difference. I will be sending Mikes new bow out to him this next week. Perhaps he can do side by sides.
God bless, Steve
Chris has built Macassar risers in the past and is merely offered based on availability.
Beautiful bow...Congrats!!!
Great bow,
Mike, could you post some profile pics of those recurve limbs? Also, some strung and unstrung pics would be nice.
sorry 4 being so demanding
SHA.... WING!!!!
Very nice bud!!
Great looking bow....wish they would quit using the BOLD white logo on the riser though...I know it's their trademark but to me it downgrades a otherwise work of art....
Beautiful bow, i have the all Bocote longbow, awsome bows. However i do agree about the white lettering, i am suprised Chris would do that, even black would be better. You will really like the bow, good luck with it.
Looks great, shoots any thing like it looks your in for some great times
I just cat called at my computer
Beautiful bow! Looking forward to the review... :readit:
Sure would love to see those recurve limbs.
God bless you, Steve
Sorry guys - got Friends in from SC and have not been able to get time to play with bows. Review and details coming soon...... This harder on me that you guys - trust me!!!
Pa- is it your first VK?
I was thinking about arranging something with Kimba Burrows on the lefty VK 'Jet' he's got on the classifieds. I just don't know though. People seem split in their reviews of them, it's either "awesome!" or "overrated!". Just wonder if I bought it if I would be paying for a name or just the "prestige"-kinda like a Corvette/Porsche: 50-100k/ace performer vs a Bentley: 250-400k/lots of fluff? Anyone have any thoughts? That lefty VK Jet is pretty evil looking...
2014 update- on my second one! They are the real deal!!
I've had three Habus and still have 2. They are terrific bows. They are different but I put them against my other favorite wooden riser recurves the Schafer Silvertip and Bigfoot Sasquatch.
The best thing about Habus too me is the grip and smooth draw. The bow is plenty quick also.
I've thought about the Jet that is for sell also. Two things hold me back:
1. It has LB limbs.
2. It is about 4 pounds hotter than I want.
Very nice!!
Beautiful bow Mike! Best of luck with her buddy.
Nice looking bow buddy!
As far as the white lettering, I would think Chris could easily leave it off the bow or do something in black. I will talk to him and let him know he should ask customers what they would like.
John
Every bow Chris built for me I requested w/out the lettering. He did just that.
That's sweet Mike. Can't wait to see the recurve limbs and read the review.
Come on Mike! Tell me you have had a chance to shoot 'er!
Alright i finally got some time yesterday to setup both sets of limbs. i will give you an update on my preliminary review of this bow.
My favorite part of this bow is the grip (no real change from my previous VK's) the grip just is simply the best i have ever felt. so repeatable and stable.
i am not sure how chris does it my the mass weight on this bow is incredible - i have a couple other macassar and BW ebony bows and they are just not that heavy. again not sure if he puts lead in there or what but i really like the mass.
Those two features allow this bow to be so accurate - once i figured out that it liked weaker spine arrow. This bow flat out shoots consistently - it will put an arrow where i am looking every time.
I know everyone is wondering about the recurve limbs and the amazing thing to me is that i have the recurve limbs quieter than the LB limbs. The recurve limbs are very quiet for recurve limbs and i am far from being final "tuned". The limbs are very smooth on the draw and seem to be faster than the LB limbs ( as chris said they would be).
The build quality is awesome - fit and finish is perfect. The macassar is stunning and the use of bocote on the recurve was a great last minute idea. kinda wish i would have got both limbs in bocote. Chris's bocote is second to none that i have seen. The lines on this bow are just cool - i love the look of this bow!
Now for a couple things i have not figured out yet:
the LB are not quiet, not close to previous VK LB limbs - i know they will be quiet but right now they are not and it is driving me crazy. I ordered a diff string from Alan hoping that will do the trick. cannot remember if previous VK had chris string or some one elses. I talked to chris last night and got some things to try this week.
Lastly the speed is a little less than i was hoping for - when tuned it will do a little better but it is really not as fast as i had hoped for. The bow is plenty fast and compared to most it is fast, but i think Steve and Kirk may have spoiled me in this department :notworthy: :notworthy:
As many of you know there is something about these bows - they are special and just feel soooo good to shoot. Tough to get but worth it if you can.
let me know what questions you have and i will try to answer them.
mike
Oh and i did take the rest off and i am setting it up that way first - forgot to mention that one.
Great looking bow Mike!
I'm starting your strings today...hope they help... :archer:
Brace height of the recurve limbs. Also, more pics of the recurve limbs and do they have wood veneers back and belly?
Brace on recurve is around 8". String still stretching...
Bocote on back and belly!
I will get some pics this week. Working on getting LB limbs working right now.
Mike, my longbow limbs got quieter after some shooting. Break in period? I don't know. Glad you like the recurve limbs, that is what is coming on my next one very soon. Can't decide between ebony and coccobolo!
Mike,
Thanks for all of the great information. Beautiful bow!
Not sure if it matters or not but the ebony feels heavier than the cocobola I had. I love the extra weight - might help your decision.
My longbow limbs were noisey also, a string and silencers from alan did the trick for me.
Thanks Mike. I've got an old ebony recurve (the old model) with bacote limbs. It is a bow I'll never sell. I plan to pass it on to one of my nephews. In the mean time I will continue to take critters with it.
I'm still wanting to see what that new recurve limb looks like and how it performs. I heard it is really special.
God bless, Steve
Pa lets hear some more about the longbow limbs. As it were, I've got the Vyperkahn Jet headed my way... :)
Mike, I put on of Allen's strings on my VK today & it made it a lot more quiet & the nock fit was perfect for my Tradlites!
I too would like to see pics, as I have ordered my new VK with RC limbs. I am probably about 20 months out, LOL!

Now I get it!! Haha. No fluff to the Jet! Bentley good looks AND Vette/Porsche performance...make that Koenigsegg CCX performance!! Best risk on a bow I've taken. :)
Very nice
They are awesome bows. They might not be the absolute fastest bow as some would say but they are most likely the most accurate and consistent. Now the hardest part is which limbs to shoot!
