Title: Adhesive for footings.
Post by: tracker12 on June 07, 2013, 06:54:00 PM
I want to build up a few stump arrows with aluminum footings.  Never did any before.  What type of adhesive do you like for gluing them.

gonna have to second jb weld. I have no direct experience footed carbons however, I have used both adhesives for insert glue on my xx75 and 78's. The problem I have had with gorilla super glue and blunt points like hex heads is that the bond tends to break and drive my point and insert into the shaft effectively destroying it. when I switch to jb weld this was no longer a problem. I have had excellent results with gorilla super glue for fletching my arrows however. These are the only two I am familiar with though and there certainly may be others even better suited to your task as I am not even close to being an expert.

JB Weld.  I actually stopped footing my HIT carbons once I started using JB Weld for the inserts.

I used hotmelt... and they haven't budged. All but the one I buried in my fence post. I think that was just because I was excited that i had some.  I put my last set of inserts in with JB Weld

I use standard Gorilla(not super) glue and have not had any problems at all with it with my footings.

I use the epoxy that comes with the shafts. Why waste it.

is JB Weld forever?
As in can you clean it out of a glue on tip or reuse a 100 grain brass insert that's put in place with it?

Probably not.Good epoxies take quite a bit of heat to undo. You will hear advice about heating a point etc. When I epoxy an insert into a shaft, heating won't get it loose without destroying the shaft.

I like epoxy but I have learned to only glue when I'm sure I have things where I want them to stay.
