I've been using GT Trad 3555's with great success out of various bows from 49-54# for some time. Just play with point weight a bit and I'm good to go.
Well, all my 3555's are cut to 29.25" (I draw 28") and for my new-to-me 47# GN Lil Creep I was ending up with finished arrow weight over 520 grains...not a bad arrow setup at all, but I wanted to get down to 9.5-10gpp for a little more speed and a flatter trajectory.
I remembered I had bought some GT Trad 1535 Blem shafts some time ago, but had never tried them out. Well, I fletched up a 29" shaft with a Onestringer wrap, 3-5" shields, and 175 up front and gave her a go. Finished arrow weight was roughly 450.
Absolute Flippin Perfect Flight! And Fast! I'm one happy camper.
Who else has experienced success with 1535's or other 600 carbons out of bows over 45#? What setup worked for you?
I shoot the same arrow set up out of 4 bows with amazing success. Currently my favorite arrow setup! Enjoy!!
I shoot them out of all of my bows, from 38#'s - 54#'s, though the higher poundage bows I could also shoot the 3555's.
I love them. For some reason they seem to be a little more flexible than my CE 90's and 150's.
I draw 29" and usually cut them to 30.5", but can still use much the same weight up front you are using.
Oddly enough, I was shooting them out of my 47# MojoStick recurve and, just for grins shot some 1916 Trads with 145gr field points that I figured would be way too soft, but they shot spot on - 2 fletched and one bare shaft.
I need to do some weighing and fine tuning and can maybe use the aluminums with a 140gr Zwickey.
For anything heavier, and I do like the 175 and heavier points, the 3555s seem to be my "go to" shaft.

I shoot 15-35 blems cut to 28" bop out of everything from #40 to #53 just by changing the tip weight. 175 grain tips work out of most of them. Real handy that way for tuning new bows. Bob
I love my Beman MFX 600's. They are full length, 31" with 50g insert and 125g heads, they fly great out of my 45# 21st Century and out of the Miller Cheetah 53# I just got. Once I stopped worrying about cutting arrows and just started shooting full length shafts and adjusting the arrow via insert/point weight things became a whole lot easier and more fun.
35/55 52#@27" 28 BOP 200 or 250 up front 5" feather 18% foc with the 250's
1916 28" BOP same bow 200 up front

Arrows - Beman MFX 600's, 28.5", 75gr HIT Insert, 125 gr field point, 3-5" shield cut feathers. Total arrow weight - 450 grains.
Bow - Shrew Classic Hunter 54", boo core, 46#'s at my stumpy 25.5" draw length.
9.8 grains per pound.
My best shooting bow/arrow combo I have.
Works great for me as we'll! Found out by accident when I accidentally grabbed some of my wife's 3d arrows to practice with in the back yard.
Any issues with 1535's being too light? I had thought they were 5.5-6 GPI or thereabouts. Seems like a ton of weight up front would make them really weak?

I initially thought this too. But I think when these are made they are rated shot out of high performance compound bows. And so they are stiffer than expected.
AHHH. I never thought of that! I'll have to give those a try. I've always thought my 3555's were a little stiff.
1535's weigh 7.8 GPP. I only draw 26" so I can cut these down to 27" with 225 gr. points for a finished weight of 472 gr. They fly excellent out of both my 46 and 43 pound longbows.
for cut before centre bows, the GT trads need to be lighter that one expects, but for cut past centre bows, its a different story.
from a martin hunter 60#, using 29" shafts, i found 220gr was too much up front even on 5575s and have had to go to 7595s which are an inch longer and can handle 320 up front. them some tough shafts!
I have been shooting 3555 with 175 and 200 gn tips out of my 50@28 Thunderstick and have great arrow flight, perfect pass thru on all three deer I shot this year. I just got a 48@28 Whip and figured my arrows should work the same, but I am still getting some noise and the bow is really touchy. If I don't do everything textbook perfect, I get less than perfect arrow flight. I wonder if I shouldn't give the 1535 a try, cut her to 29" and throw 175 up front?? I do like staying around 10-11gn/lb though to help quiet the bow. It still seems like a light arrow to me?
Carbons tend to run stiff, most guys are shooting them too stiff. Best to always start one grouping softer and work from there. I just stick to wood now, so much less complicated!
Interesting. Thanks for all the input/info.
I picked up some 1535's, left them full length and added 175 gr up front. They fly great. Thanks all for the input. I would have never guessed.
