Title: NBD - Anniversary Gift for my Wife
Post by: LimbLover on June 02, 2013, 11:46:00 AM
I've been wanting my wife Jessica to start shooting with me for some time. After buying our daughter Aubrey a bow from St. Joe River Bows, I thought it would be a nice gesture to get her one as well, especially with our 7 year anniversary tomorrow.

I wanted to do something special for her first bow to show her I was committed in us doing this together...being as I'm so into it.

I decided to have Tracey tattoo it. I chose two penguins facing each other in a heart formation because I've called her "Penguin" the day we started dating and have ever since. I think it turned out great. 56", 32# @ 26" longbow.

She was shocked when I gave it to her (early of course). I knew I did the right thing. I just cut her up some arrows and made her a hip quiver as well. I sneakily brought her in to the shop the other day to get her shooting glove. Didn't suspect a thing. she thought she was going to shoot one of my self bows.

Very cool Nick, I did the same thing for my wife a couple years back. It's pretty neat because she likes it we both shoot the same make of bows.   :campfire:

It is a shooter!!! Quick for a 32# bow. She shot GREAT. 2nd time holding a bow and she has everything down except torquing arrow off the rest on ocassion. She'll be rocking in a month or so.

Wow. I really wish I could pull something like this off, but if I ever got my wife a bow for an anniversary gift, it would probably end up being the last day of my marriage. I guess traditional doesn't mean the same thing to everyone

The first thing my wife told me on our anniversary in 2009 (when I first started doing this) was "Don't get me a bow. I don't want to shoot a bow. I'm not interested."

At that time I was only dabbling. Now it is part of my life. We had a conversation about how important this was to me and how I wanted her and the kids involved because I was going to be investing my time regardless...and it could be OUR time.

I went this route to show her I was serious. I could have just bought her a beater so that if she gave it up I wouldn't be out money...but what does that say?

This showed investment. I didn't just get her a bow, I got her a bow of the same quality as my own.

She was shocked when she opened up the sock. Plus it matches my daughter's bow. I'm letting her work at her own pace and am just offering for her to come shoot when I shoot my own.

I'm still holding out hope that once my son is old enough to shoot, my wife will want to come along with us to see what all the fun is about. Maybe I will go your route and order her a bow that matches his.
