Title: Unusual targets
Post by: Cryogenic on May 30, 2013, 10:56:00 PM
I get bored shooting a simple foam block with shapes on it.  My "fun" target is a cardboard box taped to the front of a foam target with the opening of the box facing out.  I have strings hanging down into the box with various arrow-safe objects attached (foam balls, etc).  When I hit one of the objects, the arrow penetrates it and pins it to the back wall of the target box.  I find this far more gratifying than a simple paper target.

What kinds of fun targets do you all use?

In a pinch I like washed out aluminum soda cans and 20oz plastic water bottles, good squirrel sized targets to shoot at with blunts.  I recently thought about trying a large water melon maybe wrapped in something clean non-toxic like cardboard etc. to simulate a critter, simulate pass throughs, haha.  Let your imagination run wild.

Finishing up a garage door opener, modified to run continuously.  Velcro tabs on the chain and on the bottom of styrofoam fish and squirrels.  They run around in circles but pop off when hit

This is a great idea! All I have is a cardboard box stuffed with more cardboard.

garage door opener flipped on the floor pulls a 3d target on a cart(remote controled)
spinning  turkey heads on a drill, turkey body(headless) and behind it is a battery drill with  long armed X made out of stiff baleing  wire with  foam heads(insulation foam)on each arm, that fly off when hit ,cut in the shape of turkey heads in line with body.
Pingpong ball on air stream(shop vac) lite fishing line keeps it on the air stream till arrowed in the center

This reminds me of the scene in the movie "Three Kings" when the guy says "Well, I don't really have a day job."     :biglaugh:

Awesome.

Foam balls from the craft store in different sizes. Break a toothpick in an half, one in the ball, one in the target and a piece of mono to suspend the ball. Really makes you concentrate

My kids like to shoot balloons. I just toss a few in the backyard and let the breeze blow them around. Honestly, dad kinda enjoys it too!

take a feed bag divide in 3rds and sew sides into long pillow shapes then stuff with plastic shopping bags till hard mount on wood base & staple to base With staple gun and make a hinge(I use old safety belt)  attached with screws make wood base  w hole drilled and use a spike  to hold it to the ground, use wire staples to attach pull up cord and make eyelet for pull up cord   (http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/1a8fdcd9-aa40-4c4d-82fd-bf873e859a26_zpse8af2a2c.jpg) (http://s441.photobucket.com/user/bloodtrailer7/media/1a8fdcd9-aa40-4c4d-82fd-bf873e859a26_zpse8af2a2c.jpg.html)  paint any "face you like"& have fun

old fashion turkey shoot place a big sheet of card board between the turkey body (nail to body w roofing nails)and spinner(to hide the heads coming up) and make sure back stop is far enuff back so arrows that miss(we all miss) will not affect the spinner, adjust speed of drill with a c  clamp or zip tie, use bungee cord to hold drill inplace   (http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/fb73e69d-0a92-4d46-94c7-94239d4299d5_zps7d4094d8.jpg) (http://s441.photobucket.com/user/bloodtrailer7/media/fb73e69d-0a92-4d46-94c7-94239d4299d5_zps7d4094d8.jpg.html)    (http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/19176285-a5a2-44ee-bda0-530b52b397e5_zpsd0a7ee26.jpg) (http://s441.photobucket.com/user/bloodtrailer7/media/19176285-a5a2-44ee-bda0-530b52b397e5_zpsd0a7ee26.jpg.html)    (http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/th_122-1_zps5b7b3945.jpg) (http://s441.photobucket.com/user/bloodtrailer7/media/122-1_zps5b7b3945.jpg.html)    (http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/th_123-1_zps5e6ebc77.jpg) (http://s441.photobucket.com/user/bloodtrailer7/media/123-1_zps5e6ebc77.jpg.html)    (http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/th_128-1_zps6db4dde4.jpg) (http://s441.photobucket.com/user/bloodtrailer7/media/128-1_zps6db4dde4.jpg.html)

Years back, I made some various turkey shaped targets and sort of spray painted them to look like something.  I put them up on my 4x6 plastic bread tie bails.  I thought they were working nicely when the cops came.  They got a report that I had made pictures of my exboss woman(sort of woman)'s head and was shooting them.  The resemblance was remarkable after it was pointed out to me, after that I shot much better.
