Title: newbie needing a little help with arrows
Post by: rodmaker on May 28, 2013, 04:34:00 PM
Hi gang,
i recently bought a Samick Sage, 45# @ 28.this is my first ( at least in a long time ) modern recurve. Up until now, most of my shooting has been with a longbow and bamboo arrows or a compound.
I picked up a few GT 3555 shafts, standard 11 grain inserts and 125 gr points. When I bareshafted it, the arrows are resting knock to the right. too stiff? I guess I'm looking for a consensus of opinion about how much weigth I need to add up front or any other suggestions.

Thanks,

David

You didn't mention the length, but I'm shooting 3555's at 30.5" from 45# bows with 175 - 200gr points and the standard insert. Points are cheap. I'd buy a couple of 175s and a couple of 225s and see what they do for you.

thanks Bladepeek.
mine are 30.5 inches as well. After adding up the weights of the bare shaft, point and insert,390 odd grains,  I felt I was going to be 50-75 grains light. Your success with 175-200gr points kinda confirms that. I found some insert weights at one of the local shops a little while ago. Gioing to take my bow and test shaft over to their shop in the morning. Will try adding another 50 grains and go from there.

Thanks again.
