Title: 4 fletch question
Post by: Roverrich on May 26, 2013, 05:12:00 PM
I recently flecthed up an arrow in the 4 fletch pattern using 4" para feathers. Love the flight and arrows spin like they were shot out of a rifle.

The question I have is whether or not it is possible/advisable to do a 4 fletch using 5" shield cut feathers? I don't have enough of the correct color 4" feathers, but have more than enough 5" shields. Thanks guys.

I hunted all last year with 4-5" parabolic and liked it.  Can't imagine shields would be much different.

I've used shield cut, parabolic, high banna(5.5'), in several color combos.  Sometime two colors, sometimes four colors.  Just depends on the state of mind at the time.

The 5" shields would add more drag and you would see more drop at longer yardages. 3 5"s should be plenty of feather.

Four 5" shields is a lot of feather and the added drag will increase your trajectory on longer shots.  That said, I shot 4 x 5" for several years and it works great at my hunting distances.  Fletch a few up and see how you like them.  It's easier to deal with too much feather than not enuf.    :readit:    :D    :archer2:

I played around with some arrows tuned for my bow.I fletched 4-4",3-5" and 4-5",and for hunting distances say 20 yds and under they all grouped together.Like said the 4-5" at longer distances will probably slow it down a lot more then the 4-4" and 3-5".
