Title: Mamba string?
Post by: KOOK68 on May 23, 2013, 05:17:00 PM
I have a Martin Mamba that's a couple years old. I'm fixing to try my hand at string-making. Would anyone know what type of material the stock string is made from?

If it's only a couple years old, you can make it out of anything you like.

I understand that, but would like to stay with the same type/diameter so I don't have tuning issues

I think it depends on who is making their strings? I think the string on a new Martin Venom I got a few years back it was a Ultra Cam string by Tammy I think. But I didn't use it as I like to use my own strings even on a brand new bow or any bow I get.I think it would be hard to tell with so many different low stretch HMPE type string materials  out there.Unless you go with a low strand count I find tuning issues will be minor if any at all.I mean I have bows that I've made a 6 strand 450+ and a 8 strand D97 and 10 strand 8125 for the same bow and shoot the same arrows out of it.I check this as I leave one arrow bare to check the tune when I change strings.

Martin was, at least at one time, having a material made exclusively for them by BCY called..."Helix", I think.  Contact BCY to see what is comparable--if you have a "factory" string on it.
