My son's 4th grade class did a project where they had to choose someone in history and be them and tell a 2 minute biogrophy of the person. My oldest son, Nick, picked Fred Bear. My boys and I learned quite a bit about Fred over the last month. He truly was an amazing man.
Nick said he wanted to take a bow to school to use as a prop (this was an after school presentation). I immediately thought NO WAY, to many people look at a longbow in a "weird" way.
I emailed his teacher and she said "No Problem". I was stunned. So I emailed the Principle and she said "No Problem, just no arrows". She understands what hunting means to my family thru conversations we have had in the past.
So we did the right thing and were rewarded (CYA). Maybe, just maybe, we are gaining ground as "Traditional Bowhunters".
By the way, Nick choose his St. Joe River longbow because, he said, that Fred Probably would have liked the bow.

Very cool Mike...A interesting side note to go along with this. Craig Potter (the orginator of the St Joe River Bow), went on his first deer hunt with the real Fred Bear. (fred and craig's dad were friends). Craig met Fred at his camp, they shot a few arrows, and Fred said to Craig's Dad, "he is a good enough shooter to hunt with me".
Fred and Craig headed in the woods, and Craig killed a buck that evening, he was 12 years old at the time.

That is just too cool! Props to the school for letting him do it!
Fantastic that your son chose Fred and fantastic that the teacher and the administration had the common sense to let him bring the bow to class!

This is GREAT!!!!...and awesome that the principle AND the teacher showed a little common sense.
One of my boys wanted to do kind of the same thing while in 8th grade(just two yrs ago) and the teacher said NO WAY to the bow, and had the principle call us at home to confirm NO WAY on the bow even without arrows. They said they would allow a PICTURE of a bow....so he changed his whole project.
Looks as if your boy NAILED it!!!!
Great job from everyone involved!!!!
Tell Nick that our house says GREAT JOB!!!!!

It's no rumor Jon. I'm glad to say both my boys are very involved in all aspects of archery and it keeps them entertained more then video games. See you this weekend.
Thank you all for the kind words
Mr.Bear might of thought more about your son than his bow. imho.
