I'm due to receive my longbow any day now. It will be a 64" Miller Longbow 55#@26 Reflex-Deflex made with heat tempered bamboo with an osage belly. I obtained my draw length by doing the "yardstick on the chest reach method" - my fingers go out to 24.5" add 1" (standard add) = 25.5". What wood arrow setup length/weight and broadhead recommendations (target shooting and hunting deer and maybe hog later) does anyone have?

I would say 60-65# shafts ( I like ASH wood, but thats me they are heavy too ) I would also cut them 27.5" long (26.5"BOP) any head will be good I use 160grn snuffers... Not only deadly, but they also save puppies.... ( Sorry thats from another thread )

if your using fast flight string i would go up to 70-75 spine cut to 30" bare shaft and cut down if needed 3rivers sells a glue on point kit for bareshafting woodies it comes with 100,125,145,160,190 gr tips 2 of each thats where I would start and go with any broadhead that flies well out of your setup just my opinion

He's got a 24.5" draw and your recommending 60-65 and 70-75 spines for a bow that is 55@26"!!!!!He's only going to be drawing 52# at his draw. At 25.5" those shafts are 75-79 and 85-89 spine. You don't even know how deep his shelf is cut. Come on if you can't leed him in the right direction, don't.

The builder of the bow sent instructions that said his arrow spine recommendation is 50-55. I ordered and received 50-55 spine. I had half of the arrows cut 26 inches and the other half 27 inches (dont know what they should feel like since i'm new). Using 125gr mounted field points and 125gr Woodsman Broadheads. Haven't shot it yet. Any suggestions?

i would think that the 50/55 will be close if they were 28" back of point...since you cut them down you may have to raise point weight to weaken spine.. if your bow riser is cut to center you may be ok..if it is not cut to center ..you'll probably be on the stiff side...I would follow ol's tuning method, or look at the tuning info on foxfire archery site..they both also have very good spine charts for woodies...and Aromaker always gives outstanding advice!
I know it's hard, but wait until you actually have the bow in hand before cutting any more shafts. There are so many variables involved that anybody's guess is just that, a guess. You're probably OK with what you have, but start with an arrow longer than you think you'll need and go from there, cutting a little at a time until you get good flight. O.L. Adcock has a great tutorial on finding the proper shaft on his website.

In order to give you even a close estiment of spine I need to know how deep the shelf is cut. If its 1/8" less than center then 35/39 spine would be very close when cut to 25.5" BOP. If its cut to center go up to 40/44. If its cut past center 3/16" go to 55/59, and advantage of being cut past center is once you've reached the minimum spine (55/59) you can go way over and still be OK. So the shafts you have could very well be correct. Ask the bowyer how deep the shelf is cut and that will solve your problem.
I'm not a carbon arrowsmith so I won't ever venture a guess in that regard.

When doing the yardstick measure you said your fingers reach (without straining) to 24.5". You add the extra inch for a broadhead only. The draw itself will only be no more than 24.5" and possibly less if you have a good bend in the bow arm. Arowmaker is right-- 35-40lb spined shafts at 28" which when cut down to 25" will be stiffend to 50-55lb spine.
Ok. Nock point 1/8" above shelf minimum to bottom of arrow. So if I use my 50-55 woods cut to 26 and 27...I'm way off potentially?
Again: It will depend on how deep the shelf on your bow is cut!!!! You still have not informed us about that. If its cut to center or past you should be ok. If its less than center it will be too stiff.
