I have found the perfect boat I think for pig hunting float trips on these lazy rivers here at home. Also good for stretching fish lips as well.
Really stable and weighs I think about 50 pounds. Paddles like a yak and holds a good bit of gear. took it on its maiden voyage today for white perch and ended up with fish and grits for a late breakfast. Can`t wait till August for some wma pig hunting with it.RC

Cool looking caddy you got there RC!
-
Most boats seem to be holes in the water you dump money into. Not that one! I like it.
-
RC I've thought about getting one of those, weighs in about 43#. I have used their longer guide canoes and love them, actually best I've ever paddled but heard somewhere they're not as stable. Your opinion please, as a lone hunter think they would be the ticket for me. Great looking rig by the way!!!!

Wish we had pigs up here, I have a Old Town Royalex canoe, it weighs 33 lbs. great for easy portage ! Good luck with yours RC.
-
Nice!!
-
Kirk has an OldTown too and he made a set of pontoons for it. He says it is unbelieveably stable now. Might be an interesting addition/

I`m gonna take the factory seat out and put a fold up seat in the bottom on a rubber mat so I can slide it out of the way. I can stand in this boat and cast. Taking the factory seat out and using the other will put a fella sitting much lower and decreasing the "tippy" factor. You can google guide 119 and there are tons of modifications a handy fella can do. I used a yak a lot last year fishing and a "family" style canoe on the river a few years ago. This boat is not as stable as the family 14, I had but paddles very good. In still water I`ll use a single paddle but in the river I will use a yak paddle.RC

I have planned on floating the Altamaha for several years and hope to do so in the next year or two in a yak or canoe. Tons of wma land on both sides of the river. Will be over a 100 mile trip.RC

Nice boat RC. I have an old town canoe that I bought at least 15 years ago. It has been on countless river float trips and is bombproof.
-
I almost bought one this spring RC but the reviews claimed it was unstable. Id like to hear your review, a real deal woodsmans review. :readit:
-
Nice Rig RC. I recently acquired a similar canoe but mine is fiberglass. I'm Looking forward to using it after the holes are patched.

Beauty!

Izzy ,its not as stable as one of its longer wider cousins but just as in bows to gain for something often means giving up something as well. I wanted a boat I could paddle upstream with, haul a cooler full of ice and me and some must have overnight stuff and be easy to get in and out of. This one works. I would not say it is unstable. I can stand and cast in it.If I were to get in some trick water I would kneel and paddle. You would really have to mess up to get it to flip.
I have noticed that most people that have not been in a yak or canoe me included expect them to be like a jonboat. They are not.I would buy again but I do not run rapids just lazy rivers and I have been paddling around in canoes and yaks for a few years.
If I had no upstream plans I would go with one longer and wider. For me doing a lot of flatwater fishing and the ability to launch this puppy with one hand ...I love it. RC

Altamaha brings back many good ole memories...back before the power plant was there I spent a lot of time on it and the banks. Especially in what back then was called Dead River down from Grey's Landing on #1. Pulled some big ole titty bream and shell crackers you couldn't reach your hand around out of that place and one trip caught 10 large mouth that weighted 63lbs..and one was only 2 lbs. Used big old roaches about 6" long big long cane pole with about 100lbs test line 3' long or so and just pushed the roaches (shinners..for others) back in the willows and roots then pulled the bass back out hand over fist with the pole. Weren't no deer season back then.
Nice boat..careful standing up in it...that Altamaha can get frisky in spots.

RC, you are the ultimate outdoorsman !

Hoyt. I`ve killed turkeys in Moody Swamp across from dead River that gobbled at the loudspeaker at the nuke plant. Last year dead river dried completely up. this year its been full longer than I can remember. Public land right across from it.I`ve been on that River for 40 years.Gods country. I would not stand in it in the River. only on "still" water. The way to stay alive in the river is to be scared of it. WE call your bass fishing method "jigger poling".My buddy Chris Spikes is a Master at it.

Headed home from a hunt in the jonboat. I remember best day I ever had outdoors. I killed a deer on foot that morning caught a mess of catfish and killed a pig in the afternoon. Had a view like this on the way home. Gods Country.RC

I thought I lived in a pretty good spot
(and I do) but Robert, I do believe YOU live in God's country.. Just beautiful..

That old time guide is fantastic. I love those canoeS

Wow! Nice place ya' got there! Good looking canoe too.

RC. one of my old buddies owned Jack's Drive In (actually his momma and daddy did back then)in Vidalia. Me and him used to go to Dead River bout every wk. after the Drive In (restaurant) closed up around midnight. We set hooks for catfish the rest of that night and fish Dead River all the next day.
Bullard Creek had just opened up back then and was about the only legal deer season close by.

Hey What are you doing with my ride?.

I wanted a Guide but ended up with the Camper with the wicker seats ect. Beautiful canoe but man that dude was super unstable. I have had like 7 or eight canoes and it was by far the worst. Its redeeming quality was the light weight. The guide does look like its much more stable and I really like the square stearn. You can add a little trolling motor to it too if you want without special brackets.
That sounds like a most excellent day you had there. Reminds me of living on the Gascognade in Mo when I was a kid. I literally lived on the river.
God bless, Steve

It looks to be my favorite color!!

I much prefer a canoe to a kayak, easier to get in/out of and carries more gear. I have 2 17' aluminum Grumans (about 70 pounds). They can be noisy, but if you paddle carefully their quiet. I used to jump shoot ducks by paddling along tidal creeks. Taught my retriever to stay still until I beached the canoe, then she'd retrieve for me. I paddled with and against the tide without much trouble. I have also flyfished out them a lot. As long as you appreciate that they're not the most stable craft-definitely not a johnboat!!!-you'll be fine. In 40+ years using a canoe, I've only had one accidently role with me one time, my stupid son-in-law was the cause.
-
Is that the Eldorado or the Seville? LOL Just kidding. Good looking rig. God bless.
-
Awesome camo job on your new canoe.

RC said he upgraded from the factory seat to make those long days of chasing critters a little more comfortable. I doubt I'm alone in wanting to see what this rig looks like when he gets done getting is swamp ready! :clapper:
-
Here it is. A bit lower than the factory model seat and can be moved forward or back depending on the load in the boat. MUCH more stable and comfortable. I took this out of one of my yaks but they sell them at bass pro.

Here is a pic beside the factory seat...

Yesterday with the Wife. I`m practicing and fishing on ponds and small lakes so when the river drops a bit and August gets here I`m gonna have some fun. I have hunted from my yaks and a larger canoe before and a jon boat a whole bunch. Its a blast.RC

I bet that seat feels like a lazy boy compared to the factory one. Thanks for sharing.

+1. I grew up canoeing on the cold waters of Minnesota. There are old paddlers and bold paddlers, but there are no old cold paddlers. PLEASE WEAR A PFD, FOLKS.
