been thinking about this for a couple of years, who would be interested in a 3 or 4 day hunt at Land Between the Lakes (in western KY)? There's backwoods camping, and I think it would be a big time if we can get enough people interested we will start working on a date.
ME :bigsmyl:
I might be in. Thats close to home!
I would probably be in if I'm off work, if nothing else for a day even if I can't get away to camp. I'm about an hour away.
Jerry,
My dance-card is full for 2013, but would love to consider a 2014 Kentucky adventure. Whatever the outcome, please keep me in the loop!!
BC
Medicare Bhtr, as well as myself, are interested in finding out more as this event develops.
I might be able to swing it. I can drop the wife and kids off in murlenberg county at grandmas and head over
Brian....Were you referring to muhlenberg county in KY? If so, you will be merely next door.
If school permits count me in also.
Tony

Energy Lake is a nice campground that is uncrowded in the late fall. I generally camp with the family in Hillman's but really like Energy when I'm deer hunting. Hot shower houses and electricity are nice too
I'd be interested, I'm old and retired now. The Ferret is retiring tomorrow I could pick him up on my way. when is deer season down there?

Typically the first Sat in Sept to 3rd Sat in Jan except during LBL quota hunts and 1 day prior to each quota hunt. Quota hunt dates should be known by July 1st.
Keep us posted on the dates you plan
I am told this is beautiful country, so much so in fact that my best friend plans on retiring there. He hunte it when he was in the service & talks of going back all the time. Good luck , Mike
I would be interested. I have a cousin that lives nearby, Dover Tenn.

It truly is, the good Lord blessed us with a tremendous resource. I spend a lot of time there fishing. Saw a nice gobbler this morning coming out of one of the boat ramps.
I would be interested as well, LBL is a truly awesome place.
I might be able to swing it depending on the dates. Been looking for a road trip this fall anyway. I've heard good things about LBL.
Jerry, I am definitely interested. When you pick dates, let me know. First hunted LBL in 1964 or 5. Regret that I did not take a fallow buck when they were huntable. Look forward to meeting you.
Jerry, this sounds like a great idea! Im in S.E. Indiana, which makes it real appealing to me.
My schedule is pretty flexible, so just let me know the dates and im pretty sure I can be there.
Paul
This sounds pretty interesting to me too, I'll be keeping an eye on this for more details.
It will more than likely be early season their dates run close to Kentucky statewide seasons but they are a little different I wll try to post them next week. Looking forward to it .jerry
Possibility for me too, so I'll be watching thread.
Lets keep this on the front page for a while
Jerry-I am very interested in hunting Kentucky! Keep us posted on the dates and I will see what I can do! Thank you.
Kenny :bigsmyl:
I might be interested. I will watch for more posts.
Yep, me too! What about camping or a place to stay?
Plenty of camping in LBL, backcountry/primitive to more developed campgrounds. Also hotels/cabins nearby as well if you want to go that route. Here's a link to what LBL offers as far as camping.
http://www.lbl.org/campgate.html
I would be interested for sure. Please post dates once you get them because I have a few other hunts that I am already going on and need to see if I can make it. Thx
me too
Yeah depending on the dates I am very interested.
I am interested LBL is a great place.
sorry still havent got dates set but it will be in september
Great just let us know. I have a hog hunt in September so need dates when you get.
Has anyone had any new information on this one?
I'm still interested depending on the date. Maybe you should p.m. Jerry? :campfire:
Count me in!
PM sent to Jerry to see if this is still going to happen.
Dates are set, will be Sept 7th-9th. We will be staying at The Hillman Ferry campground. If you are coming from out of state this is the LBL contact # (270) 924-2065. If you have any questions they are very helpful. Hope to see you there.
Well it's official. I gt the job in KY and am set to start work the 22nd. Trying to sell the house, but my first 6 months of work is in Paduca so I'm in if the house sells in time.
Well shooot. I'm working days that weekend. Have a great time guys. I've got 1 word of advice. PERMANONE!
I've been planning a Maryland and north Carolina trip for this year but I can maybe hold off on NC and do Kentucky.. how's the deer population down there and how's the location what kind of terrain....
LBL has lots of hills hollers an creek bottoms.theres corn feilds bean fields an hay fields.there are a lot of deer there but they are preasured so its not a slam dunk.an i have seen some very good bucks there. looking foward to seeing yall there
I'm seeing mostly people already from Kentucky that may know all this but is there any local butchers nearby that can hang the deer in a cooler till I left,, I'd pay to quarter it if that helped,, if this is an open invitation I'm interested in hearing the dates..
Brian if your going I'm sure I'll have my new Morning Star.
The dates are set its a open invite there's plenty room for everyone I can't tell you about local butchers we always use coolers I can tell everyone that you have to have a ky license an deer tag an you it's purchase a LBL user permit that is 20 bucks that allows you 2 deer 1 buck an 1 doe or 2 does I think a out of state tag is around 250 so if your coming from out of state be sure to check that out
ttt
I may be interested. Doesn't look like CO. is going to happen.
60 minutes from the house ...I think I can swing that. As mentioned earlier, permanone is a must that time of year. I know of several deer processors within 30-60 minutes depending on where in LBL you are. This will be a WARM weather hunt with opportunity for getting one in velvet.
Cant wait, spent last weekend down there and saw several deer one pope and young class. got a couple spots picked out. Lots of beans and corn in the fields!
Jerry,do you want to pick a specific area at the campground and tell everyone so others can make reservations (although probably not necessary) or at least know where we'll be? Maybe a site close to both tent and camper spots as well as close to facilities?
Gonna see if I can make it. Sounds awesome!
Sounds like a good time. I will be in FL at Surf Expo. Don't think the hubby would like it if I joined anyways ;)
Have a great time and keep us all updated!
It's getting closer.
I just spent a couple nights camping at Hillman Ferry in LBL. This campground has everything you could need. I'm looking forward to this trip.
Make sure you bring your tick repellent, thier bad that time of the year.
thi sounds very interesting is ther cabins to rent or is it just tents
If you look on lbl.org under "alerts" it shows the 65 miles of road systems insidr LBL to be closed off to vehicular traffic to offset budget cuts there....
Should I bring a bicycle?
Some of the campgrounds have cabins, but not Hillmans ferry.
The more closed roads the better. Easier access to hunting without traffic. You can actually rent a bicycle at Hillman's ferry campground.
Go to lbl.org for more info on the area including maps.
what does everyone think about backwoods camping .you will have to drive a couple miles to take a shower but we can set up a target an shoot a little that way because you cant shoot in the campgrounds we can pick a spot an let everyone know how to get to it
Sounds good to me!
I looked at a map of Hillmans ferry and thought I saw an archery range there. Hap
I planned on packing for a backpack hunt and throwing some car camping stuff in the truck.
There is an archery range at Hillman ferry campground.
TTT
It is going to be hot that time of year and the ticks will be BAD, bring plenty of spray!
I live 15 min. from Hwy 68 bridge over Lake Barkley, in Cadiz area, LBL is my main place to hunt. I don't get serious until after mid Oct.
I have seen 3 bucks that look over 150 this summer in velvet AND a 170+ last feb. just after the season closed. Don't ask where in LBL.
I will come up and visit with ya. Sat. evening.
LBL's bow season does not open with statewide season. I dont think it opens untill like october. And thats good, they say the deer ticks will eat u alive in sept anyway. Have not read alll the posts, have any dates been set ? I'd love to be a part of this if im off work. Count me in !
I would avoid an early season hunt due to the ticks, wait for a couple good killing frosts. late oct-early nov is the pre rut, and the best hunting.
cabins are at Wranglers camp, not too awfull far from energy lake campground. also Ken-lake ands barkley resorts are pretty close if you want to go the motel route. Kenlake even has cabins with bathrooms and kitchens. Wraanglers is just primitive cabins. back country camping is also spermitted with a $5 permit. Thats what i usualy do
http://www.lbl.org/pdf/13-14DeerHuntinfoSheet.pdf
Archery season at one time opened earlier at LBL than the statewide season.
I'll be down there in late Oct.Not hunting there any earlier than that.
If you have ever had chiggers the ticks down there are that bad x10..
Archery: Sep. 7- Jan. 20 except quota hunt days and one day immediately before each quota hunt
thanks TSHOOTER i spoke with the lady at LBL and she told me season started on the 7th of september and ran exactly how you posted the only problem with staying in a campground or in a wranglers camp is that you cannot hang a deer or clean a deer in camp and you cannot shoot your bow in a campground, that is why we are thinking of doing backwoods camping not too far from a good shower will be going down in a few weeks to pick a spot and will post then. Hope to see everybody there.
Randy, How ya doing its been a while. Let me know when you are going to hunt LBL i'll stop by. WE are talking about the last week of Oct./first of Nov.?
I will check on a back country camp site for ya if you want? For the Sept. group. What area are you looking at.
Oldbow KY = Ernie
Did you get a final count on how many are coming.
ernie, sounds good buddy ! I have taken to hunting on the north end of LBL, but still like hunting 8 and 10 as well. We will see what we can do, ive not set any dates yet, so we will try and hook up.
About 3weeks out who alls coming
id be all about this hunt if it were the end of october.
Jerry, have you decided on camp location? Too many ticks for an early September hunt for me. Would like to come for a visit. Good luck to all.
Haven't decided on a camp site yet waiting to see how many we're coming
We're headed down Friday afternoon if
Anyone is coming my no is 2706467117 hope to see u there
Well mates wont make it this weekend got a party with the grand kids.
Hope to meet up with you folks sometime though.
As a note, there are 6 Trad shooters here in the LBL area that are trying to put a group together for some shooting/ BS sessions at the range in LBL. Anyone interested PM me.
Well.......... :campfire: How did y'alls LBL trip go? Anybody have any luck? I would have loved to have stopped by over there to meet y'all, but maybe next time. Details please! :)
I went last week of october and after 5 days of hunting saw a button buck from the stand, saw a couple while wandering looking for new stand sites, and the only buck sign I saw was one rub. saw several deer driving after dark. Not a very productive week, but fun none the less. Could not find any acorns, but had no luck hunting a clover field either. Cant explain whwere the deer are at.
