Title: carbon , woodie spine question..

ive heard that carbons recover faster than woodies ...does this mean we can typically shoot a slightly stiffer spine in carbons and still achieve good flight? also does carbon spine weaken at the same rate as woodies when leaving shafts longer... like a 50/55 spine woodie would be more like 45/50 @ 29"..does this hold true for carbons... thanks as usual..steve

Actually the opposite, because they recover faster a slightly weaker spined carbon will probably appear to fly well.  However weaker spined carbons are seldom the problem, they tend to be rather stiff.

In my experience trying to compare woodies to carbons will frustrate you, they are just different animals.  Carbons will tolerate point weight variances remarkably well, but are very length sensitive and will get really stiff in a hurry.

If trying to set up for carbons, the best approach IMO would be to search past threads for info on what others with similar set ups have found works for them.  That should give you a reasonable starting point, allowing you to be close enough to fine tune to your rig.

I agree with SlowBow's comment about carbon's being "length sensitive" -- shorten 'em a bit too much and they seem awfully stiff.

I ended up with carbon shafts much longer than wood or aluminium would be despite a lot of weight -- FOC well over 20%.
