Anybody hunt with just using a ghillie boonie hat to break=up the human form?Don,t see why it would,nt work just as long it drapes over the shoulders.................
Umm.... I don't. But I agree, it should work. Good idea.
I had the same thought recently.
I have one for my Cabelas ghillie and it woks great. I wore it over other hats in some cases in cold weather.
I do. I made it myself. I sewed a bunch of strips of fabric to a piece of mesh from an old football jersey, then safety-pinned it to a camo stocking cap. (Yeah... my wife showed me how to use her sewing machine... but the worst part is that she tells all my friends about it...)
Works great, looks good. I wear it off-center so that there is a gap over the left side of my face (I shoot righty), so that my string doesn't catch on anything. It looks better in the woods than it does here in my basement:

I think Terry Green wears a hat like that
I take it a step further and use the Marc Anthony Ghillie jacket as well but I think just the boonie works also. Like you said, the most important part is breaking the head to shoulder outline/transition IMO.
Nice work Archie!
I use a full fledged Ghillie suit. There are downfalls to it. Just ask my wife about me cleaning it in the house before I washed it. Needless to say she was proud. Something like that shoud work great though
I made one out of stranded, died burlap. I like it. I originally made a ghillie top out of a BDU shirt with the boonie hat attached but it was just too much especially when trying to move through the brush. It's still pretty big and hangs down over my shoulders and arms.
I do it sometimes, as does a friend. It does work (I believe). It is a lot easier to walk around like that than inside the whole ghillie.
That said, when I want to hide after I get somewhere, I use the whole thing.

I made a ghillie boonie hat, shirt and pants. I sewed a volleyball net on, then tied different shades of brown burlap on. Don't make it too heavy, or it will hurt your neck if worn a long time. The brim is nice because it keeps the burlap off of your face. Just trim it so you can see, shouldn't take long to make.

Not a great pic of it. But its one I made.
I just kept the leaves that came off my Cabelas leafy suit when I washed/ dried the. Used fabric glue onto my boonie hat- very simple except I lost the hat one morning walking into my stand. That hat I got In College too had for years
