or maybe light blue is not my color?

Great job! That's definately a P&Y candidate there !! :biglaugh:
What kind of fish is that? We do not have those anywhere around here.
Congrats,
Bisch
I usually know my fish species, but what is that?
Hey Bisch, you beat me to it.
looks like an Asian carp to me....
"Yes dear, it does make you look thinner."
I've never seen a fish wearing a blue T-shirt before. What is that fish anyway???? :saywhat:
These are Asian Carp " jumping carp" . Can reach weights up to 80#s. Our camp on Mississippi River has two large culverts we fill our fishing oxbows up with in high water times. These fish love to jump into the current. I have been pounding them the last two weekends. These fish are non native and a ecological nightmare for the Mississippi and neighboring tributaries..........but man are they fun to shoot with a bow.. i lost a 6'er....i would have mounted him

Have you tried eating them? everyone I've talked to says they are great. Haven't shot one yet..,
Awesome fish!
6 feet?! Wow! I didn't know they got that big! Nice Dog!
Awesome fish! Looks like a blast.
Thanks Gun, got to brag on "Pop" AKC Master Hunter....he's a new dad at 7 years old this week
These fish can get huge once they reach maturity. They are new to our waters. Catfish farmers brought them over in the 70's to clean up ponds...big mistake!.. we are just now seeing mature fish in our waters
Wow....please eradicate them before they make it into the Great Lakes system.
No
Seriously, those are great fish for bowfishing. Unfortunately, that is about the only good thing that can be said about them (not sure about the eating part).
Kill 'em all Joey!
If someone had access to fishing those brutes and were to offer up a package on the St. Jude auction I'll bet there would be a couple of bidders. (Hint! ;) ) :bigsmyl:
Those look like fun!
Oh i would love too especially with new cabin finished......but........can you guarantee me high water mark of 40' at Helena Ark on the river gauge in May? it's a sporadic thing.
Should have taken a picture of all the gar at the pipe heads...10-20-30 sometimes. They hang around eating bait fish coming through the culvert...i dont waste my time shooting them because i am waiting on the big fish to jump 10' in front of me. Now my 10 year old....different story... he 's got to have tennis elbow this morning....
Those are some huge fish!
Joey, are you shooting koi out of those Japanese garden ponds again?
Johnny V....i had to look up "koi".....only you would know that spelling.....redneck spelling is Coy or Trotline bait
Ate you giving a seminar on these anytime soon? Ate you making fish calls now?
What hawgs...good shooting!!
i could but it would be short.....stand on top of the culvert, and shoot as quick as you can when they jump...You be a natural Marty with your 20" snap shot

x2 squared!
Good job Joebuck, but I have to ask, do you always rest the tip of your arrow against your crotch like that?
A new dad named "Pop" is a fitting name but has to be some sort of redneck record. Marty has a cousin who became a pop at 15 years old.
I hope that's not the pointy end your fishing arrow you've got resting next to "the boys" (in the second picture)!!!
Wow...those are big fish. Biggie could probably hit one of those.RC
Hence the the grimace! Gene.
RC ..biggie could if he had his ole Longhunter back
Pop is looking gray and so are you my friend. Nice fish.
Looks like those ab ripper tapes I sent you are paying off too.
Tell Hayes I said " good shooting". DB
Joey: Those are good'uns. I used to shoot them all the time in the Des Moines River in May. The next couple weeks should be the peak. I've shot some big ones. The only one I weighed was 33 lbs. but I too got an arrow into a monster. I got to see him and he had to be over 80 lbs. I used to fish for cobia in FL and had an idea what I was looking at. He cleaned my clock. He ended up getting around a log and snapping my solid fiberglass shaft right off just behind the fish point. It was like hooking Amtrak going through on a non-scheduled stop. By the way, I did try fileting a couple 20 lbers. I kept the top white meat and threw away the darker flesh. In all honesty it wasn't bad at all. I've eaten store-bought fish that were stronger tasting. I heard they occasionally get over 100 lbs. Now one of those would even make me look thinner. UB
Nice shooting! Those would be a big problem on the jet ski crowd here in Florida..I had a 1 1/2 pound Mullet hit me in the chest one night on Lake George, I was in my Jon Boat going about 20 mph. One of those monsters would have knocked me out of the boat..
Nice fish! We catch a bunch of them, snagging for spoonbill. One friend of mine has been canning the heck out of them and they are really good. Another friend, scored up some and fried it and said it was good too, very mild tasting he said.
The ones a friend fed me tasted a lot like walleye.
They are fun to shoot!!
Good shooting!!
God bless,Mudd
Well I just might have to dip one in mustard and catfish meal and deep fry a nugget up
I seen them fish on River Monsters. They knock you outta the boat if they hit you when you're going fast. You might outta wear a "Fish Helmet" like the Vikings had, just to be safe! Lol Oh yeah......great job on stickin' them nice fish!
I didn't read but half the thread title and knew it must be you. Good show Buddy! I'm not going to show those pics to my boy or we'll be headin west Friday after school.

Ya what's going on with your "shaft" in that second picture?!
Hahaha those are great. I bet that's a blast!
Sounds like alot of fun.
Nice pics. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
Man, I saw a show on TV last night where they were bowfishing those things as they were jumping behind the boat and instantly thought "That's the same fish joebuck posted a pic of". It looked like a hoot, shooting those things in the air!
Bisch
Joebuck, is that a bow fishing stand behind you on the original picture or a hand wheel for a valve?
Glad we don't have them in Texas!!!!
Well yeah, Biggie, I guess it DOES make you look a LITTLE thinner...
Oh wait, it's YOU, Joey!!! Oops... my bad! :saywhat:
Disregard, please!
(Great job on the fish, by the way)
Fry it up and tell us what it et like...
Bet if you eat enough of that you will invent a new diet. The redneck binge and purge :saywhat:

You and RC Grasshopper are forgetting who won the 1st Annual Al Bundy Bowfishing Championship.
And, unbelievably, I never met Mr. Buchanan. But seeing all that gray hair, now I can imagine what he looks like 8-)
Great job Joe!! :scared:
LA... That wheel opens and closes the screw gate that let's water through a pipe from Mississippi river into our lakes. The big head carp love to swim against the current and they jump at the mouth of the pipe. We open and close that gate to restock our lakes accordingly. The bighead carp congregate at the screw gates. It's pretty fun....I try to get a video tomorrow
Gotcha. It looks like a bow fishing stand from the picture. But your feet aren't wet so you didn't wade out to sit on it.
Looks like a funnel and killin' zone!
Billy
Looking good Brother:) I bet that is a hoot!!!
cool fish :clapper: congrats
awesome, keep shooting those carp, do the next one in the air as it jumps for me.....
Congrats Joey!!! Nice ones
Oh, by the way, you and I are now alike in a new way- we are both built for radio
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: Hey Ray, can i borrow your Bowflex!....Batman got on the P90 and he is back at his Marine fighting weight 182....of coarse all he eats is turnip greens and blue crabs

Turnips and blue crab- add some grits and hush puppies and you got a meal, baby!
Man those are awesome and HUGE. We don't have those in these parts. Just a few grass carp.
Nice Fish Joe, looking forward to the video!
BIG FISH!!!

Mr. Joebuck!
When you stick one of those asian fish - do they take to the air or just roll over and let you pull them in?
Inquiring minds want to know....
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
They dont jump anymore toting the fiberglass but can cut a wake
Thanks for the pics. After seeing the fish jumping on TV, I have been giving it serious thought to head west and have a little fun. This just keep the embers glowing inside me.
Those gluten free oreos are a lie! What bow is that?!

Take em all out!!! Will your fish and game guys let you run nets to take them out?
Joebuck, glad you are finally out of denial- yes, you are bigger than me and most others- except maybe one guy I used to know in Ga.....
Is that a Pope and Young carp?

Joey told me today on the phone that the pic of Marty was one he took a few years back in Daytona. Turns out, Marty had just took first in a wet T-Shirt contest on the beach. He said they got free drinks all weekend on account of it. You never forget the good times.
A lot of hard physical training being shown in this discussion..... :archer: :archer:
Sorry wrong smiley face...
