Title: Back Against the Tree.....Taking this season more seriously! With Tree Seat Pics.
Post by: Wannabe1 on May 12, 2013, 10:58:00 PM
Ok, I've got my bow, arrows tuned to it, shooting is pretty good after all the time off, shoulder is better and holding up and got some hunting plans in the works.

We've covered the tree seat that I have coming and the concealment and movement aspects. So, my question is this, if I am sitting on my tree seat with my back against the tree, how do you overcome the drawing elbow from hitting the tree? Do you need to lean way forward or do you rise from the seat and out away from the tree?

My tree seat isn't here yet, and I know I will need to practice from it but, was wondering what others do?

If you are sitting with your back to the tree trunk, then your drawing elbow should move parallel to the tree and not hit it at all.

X2 Bisch. Also  it will vary in hunting situations because game may not always come from where you think in which case your shots will vary.

That's what has me concerned is game coming from my right. If I have to swivel to my right to make a shot, it seems my elbow would hit the tree and interfere with my draw.

That's kind of an issue whenever you hunt next to a tree whether it's on the ground or in a stand. You always give up something so position yourself where your right side (least desirable shot or maybe no shot) has the most cover. Most likely shot should be setup to your left or in front.  I do the same thing with treestands.

I sit with my rt side against the tree mostly. I`m rt. handed. . I plan my shot on the left and usually lean forward just a bit at the shot. I use one of those short fold up seats from walmart maybe 8" high. I think sitting higher without a blind gets you busted. May be just me.RC

Ok so, keep my tree seat lower for better concealment and position myself to have a more frontal to left shooting lane. I've got to scout the area again and when I do, I am going to start creating some natural blinds and will put the most cover on my right.

Thanks for the tips and I'll try and take a pic or two for critiques.

Every once in a while the animals just come through and don't give you a shot. It is all part of it!

RC has it right, position the seat on the tree at an angle from where you expect the shot. I do the same with all my treestands. I never sit ful facing where I expect my shot to be. Shawn

Another thing you can try is when you see game coming you can sometimes slip down to your knees  when their view is obstructed. I always clean the debri around the tree and have been able to stand and move around the tree and keep it between me and the deer until a shot is present. Just because they are coming from a certain direction doesn't mean they walk a straight line. Especially when feeding. I love ground encounters!    :archer2:

Another thought change.  We can't cover 360 degrees around us. Set up some good shots and set yourself up to take those shots.  The rest are sight seeing.

My Tree Seat just arrived and I put it on the only tree I have in my yard just to see how it would look. I think this thing will work just fine!

I think you should put it a bit lower on the tree so your feet can touch....
