Title: Floppy Arrow
Post by: PebblePlacement on May 11, 2013, 08:38:00 AM
What does a up and down floppy arrow usually mean?

From 10m, huge flop at around 5-6m from shooter, straightens before impact with intended target (well close )
Homemade 53#@26" longbow (I draw 26"), center cut off shelf, self nocks on 31" arrows 125grain on 550gram maple shafts. Split finger w glove. Nocking onto string a touch above center (bare string(no nock))

What is the major tuning factor for this flight?

Thank You All.

Often that means the nock point height is not correct.  It can be other things, including your release.  Start with the nock height and change one thing at a time.  Put a nock point in place or it will change constantly.  Start   at least  the thickness of your arrow above level (with the shelf).  I would go as high as 3/4" to start.

Also, self made bow. .  At what point, relative to center line of the bow , did you cut in the shelf ?

You  need to find the correct nocking point and install some sort of marker.

I cut dead center and added hair-on jersey cow skin.
Could the size of my shield cut kick it up?
Or the wrapping on my self nocks?

When I am searching for the correct nocking point I use a bare shaft and a moveable nock point on the string. I get only 10 feet away from the target and shoot the bare shaft. I want it to enter the target parallel to the ground. It is hits nock low I raise it and vice versa if it is high. I keep on adjusting until I get that shaft going in straight.

If you are going to do that, remember that the target you are aiming at should be somewhat at your height or you will always have a nock high arrow.
