Title: Splitting turkey feathers
Post by: Goshawkin on May 08, 2013, 08:59:00 PM
I got rained out of work today,so I decided to work on making some feathers.I've made a bunch of fletching in the past with a little chopper.Splitting the quill was always a pain in the neck for me using a x-acto knife or box cutter.I had an idea and broke out my rotary cutter I use for leather work. Works like a charm!Fast and easy to keep it right down the center. Just thought I'd pass on the tip.

Any quilting shop will have em, sewing area at Wally World should have em, make sure you have the mat as they are super sharp.

Don't know if they have Jo-Ann fabric stores out that way,but that's where they came from. My wife shops there alot and got them for me on a 50% off sale. Gotta love her.   :D

Jo-Ann's is where I bought mine, also. They were having a sale so I picked up the cutter and a pack of 5 cutting wheels. That should last me awhile

I use mine to clean up the leading angle on my chopped fletches. They look much nicer and keep the rough edge away from my hand.
