Just curious how many out there are lone hunters, who just prefer to go it alone when hunting?
99 percent of my hunting (and fishing) are alone. Don't mind if someone goes along, but enjoy the solitude immensely.
I love having to NOT meet me at x at mid day.
I like having pards who i can call if i need help.
I do not like getting back to rig at end of day with pard "who knows where" and having to wait and worry.
I have no choice to be a lone hunter. I'm the only person I k ow in my area that's hunts trad. I would enjoy company from time to time if it where available
I hunt a lot with my brother-in-law (compound shooter, but a good guy) and my wife likes the fact that someone will know where I am in case something should happen, but I honestly do still prefer the freedom of hunting on my own.
99% of the time but as i get older i think i would like someone to hunt with once in awhile trips more i still like being a lone wolf when im close to home
I prefer to do stuff with my hunting partner, we will split up etc but I enjoy it more with someone to share it with more and more it includes my 3yr old son
I hunt and fish alone 99% of the time. It's just how it works out. I've done things my way so long now doubt I could hunt with someone all the time.
I have mostly been alone. I enjoy having a buddy at camp to share the days stories.
I would say 90% of my time is spent alone. Even when I go with someone we split up a pretty good ways and do our own thing. I just enjoy the solitude.
Yep, prefer to go it alone myself.
Alone is great, but sharing is good too.
"compound shooter, but a good guy" - ha, classic!
Iv had the same hunting partner for yrs he hunts with a compound but bought my rt hand sunset hill. I wouldnt consider hunting alone. There is some deep wilderness areas in humbolt trinity co. You need a gps and someone who knows where you are at hand. Some guy walked into the boonies and died fromhypothermia.his dog survived my 2 cents
I am naturally a loner while hunting, but enjoy sharing a camp. It's just me, not many people hunt at my pace in the mountains.
I enjoy hunting alone when I'm hunting for myself...lately I've been introducing people to turkey hunting and it's been a blast as well :campfire:
When I go calling I like to be buy myself. Rabbit and other stuff its fun to have a buddy along. If its been real nutty at work I realy need a day to my self and maybe the dog.
I am a Lone Hunter, every once and while a nephew or brother will go, but pretty much on my own. I always leave print a topo map of where I am hunting and mark it and leave it on dining room table and wife knows where I am. Also, I put a map on the dashboard of truck when I am hunting. I do this to 1) if something happens the CPO or whomever knows where to look and 2) if another hunter come's in, he/she knows where I am so as not to bump one another.
i like being alone, but it worries my wife, and she is right, someone should be nearby, especially tree stand hunting. I do enjoy lunch and supper with hunting buds to swap stories
I have hunted alone for many years. The very few times I hunt with someone else, it feels really strange. I enjoy the solitude of the woods.
The older I get, the more I like hunting with someone else. Preferably that person would be younger and stronger.
Another loner here. :wavey:
I've hunted with another person two times in the last 25yrs. Before that I pretty much hunted alone.
I do most of my hunting alone. I prefer to hunt with a buddy for safety reasons, help dragging a deer or for ideas where the action might be better than the place we're hunting.
I like hunting alone but I really enjoyed hunting out west with good friends and the camp life but being 72 I have lost a lot of friends who passed on or just quite hunting because of old age in the last decade.
Me and my family usually hunt together, being that we are all on the same piece of property but have our own spots, this way we can help each other track deer, and we've got the property we hunt covered. However I am solo when it comes to trad, everybody else shoots...do I really want to sin here or not?
Nah, let's just say they can't see anymore and therefore need rifle-scopes on their "bows" but about half of the time I like to hunt alone, it gives me the full hunting experience when I gotta track and hunt on my own and sharpens my outdoor skills.
I mostly hunt alone. Sometimes my son will join in and I do have one hunting bud but he is one of those fair weather hunters and he uses training wheels.
Me. Hunting with someone else just seems to lessen the experience for me. Been hunting alone for a long time now.
A 3-D shoot or in camp is fine, but seldom do I want company. Makes it a lot quieter.
I've done both, but prefer having the right hunting partner to share camp with. In the field though, I'd much rather be on my own. That's also why I generally don't care much for guided hunts.
I like hunting alone, and have never hunted with a trad bow with anyone else (7 years). This fall will be the first time that I go out with a partner, and it's a long, wild float trip for moose in Alaska.
The wife has been my hunting/fishing partner for almost 40 years and we both enjoy haveing others along.
With my longbow in hand I go it alone...
The only conflict I run into is within myself!
Generally I win the argument, lol..
90% of the time I hunt alone. Elk hunting I don't mind hunting with 1-2 others though because I like to be the caller and watch the show. Deer though I prefer to go alone
Mainly on my own - to hunt with the two other guys I know who hunt usually means a lot of added driving time which means less family time - as my usual hunting grounds on family land it's just easier to hunt alone but spend time with the family when I'm done - M
Enjoy hunting alone - always have. Usually fish alone unless my wife is with me then she is my partner. She enjoys fly fishing as much as I do.
I hunt alone when hunting deer here in Michigan. When chasing rabbits I like some company.
Out west hunts, have always been with a partner, and I enjoyed it.
I like both However,
If hunting with others, I like to share camp and we each do our own thing.
I hate hunting other peoples schedules but now with sharing a car with my wife, I am grateful for anyone willing to give me a ride.
I mostly hunt alone but not necessarly by design. Either way I like being out there.
Have all my success alone. Really enjoy solo hunts but I do look forward to taking my son when he gets older.
Alone but not by choice; used to have a partner but he was lost to an accident. Work had me moving around and relocating so I never really connected with anyone.
I hunt both. I often enjoy going alone but, my dad is the best hunting parter I have and we have had some of the best hunting together. Other guys I will take out cause they want a buddy and are casual hunters but, given the choice I would rather leave them behind and often do but, not with the old man we are too "in tune" to make it un enjoyable.
I like to share a camp and hunt alone for the day unless my son is along and then we hunt together.
I usually have another person in camp as well, but I/we hunt alone most of the time. Will sometimes hunt as a pair on elk, one calling, the other in front, up wind 30-50 yards.
I don't mind sharing a camp at the end of the day, but prefer to hunt alone.
I hunt and backpck alone 90% of the time, I love the solitude. My wife's not real crazy about it though.
I truly love sharing a camp with other hunters. Most always hunt alone these days even out of a camp with others.
I also, though, love turkey hunting with others. I truly get as much satisfaction out of working a bird for a buddy as I do working one for me.
If we're talking trad only, then it is me, and only me. No hunting buddies that hunt trad.
Leave the home alone about 50% of the time.
Leave the truck, heading in a different direction from a hunting partner, about 50% of the time.
My Deer hunting is strictly by myself. Wish I had a Trad buddy to share camp with though.Would be fun to have someone to Turkey hunt with, and small game is almost always better with two or more.Still, I end up hunt by myself 90% of the time.
I hunt alone just about all of the time, except small game a few times a year. Would like to have a hunting buddy, though.
By and large when I am serious about killing something I hunt by myself. When I am just going out to hunt I often take a newby with me. All of that aside the last deer I killed here in AZ I shot on a rainy day after church with my wife by my side.

I think most hunting is an alone experience, however it's nice to come back to camp and share that experience.
I prefer solitude in the woods....hunting, canoeing, camping, etc. Other than my wife accompanying me in canoe and on camping trips...have only had a couple gentleman that I really enjoyed spending time with on hunts. not their fault....just I like to be on my own schedule.
a recent PBS Hog Hunt in Georgia was first time I had spent time with someone around a fire or in the woods while hunting since maybe mid to late 1990s...
Mostly it is the feeling I have to be with them during hunting light... The PBS hunt was great as I did not have to worry if they were on game, in camp waiting, or not enjoying themselves....all were experienced hunters so we could do what we wanted and then share stories around a fire.
Lately been getting family and friends into traditional archery....so might be doing it more as I help keep them interested....
all in all though...a few days alone in the woods helps to cleanse my soul....reset my body clock...and bring me closer to humanity while be far away from them.
keep em sharp,
ron herman
Most always hunted alone, my time, my way and loved it. Times are a changing though, last couple of years my oldest son Briar 11 has started going a lot more and I really have enjoyed it, Ledge 8 is getting the itch and Creek 4 thinks he can do it all. My daughter Jacey 13 is every now and then talk about it but mostly just loves to shoot a bow. Yeah times are a changing for me, days alone in woods getting rare. Looking forward to some company, sometimes!!!
I am a lone hunter, but I shared many camps with my Dad ( Passed on 12 years ago ), Best friend for about 45 years and still going.
I hunt alone 99% of the time, but often have a buddy hunting the same property. We arrive and leave separately, but have discussed where we will hunt so as not to infringe. After dark, always wait for the other guy to get out. If we hunt on different properties, we call to be sure there are no problems.
