Title: A missed opportunity
Post by: NIGEL01 on May 02, 2013, 09:55:00 PM
Headed up to my folks(SS Snuffer) huntin shack in central MN this past weekend cause the weather was suppose to be in the high 60's.  Had with me my 3 children 11, 7 and 3 years old, we were planning on spending the nite.  When we got there the weather was beautiful but there was still 10 to 12 inchs of snow in spots.  The worst was the driveway.  In the yard layed two dead fawns under pine trees 25 yards apart.  We parked on the road had some lunch and unpacked some tree stands.  I drug the deer out into the woods.  Here's the missed opportunity: the kids should have helped me, and I should have explaned that this is why we have hunting seasons.  I'll still explain it to them, but if they had helped me it would have more of an impact I think.  :knothead:

That would have been a great lesson for sure.  Actually seeing it would drive it home.  Next time!!!  I'm sure that you can still bring them to the carcasses and explain.  I'm sure a walk in the woods will produce more opportunities.  You guys got hit pretty hard out there this year.

We, as hunters, know how cruel Mother Nature can be.  I guess "cruel" is not the best choice of words, but I think that you get the idea.

It is the non-hunting (note that I did not say anti-hunters - they could care less) who do not always understand that nature has a way of correcting itself, and it is not pretty.  Be it starvation, CWD, H. Fever or other (painful and drawn out) means - nature will correct itself (ironically the same can be said of us Homo sapiens as well).

BE PROUD TO BE A HUNTER!  You are part of our Makers and nature's design!

Ouch!  Just fell off my soap box    :biglaugh:    !
