What do you guys prefer? Any speed or noise difference? Thanks. Bill
Never shot ultra cam, but D10 seems very nice for me. I am kind of funny and years ago I fell in love with D97 and that is what I still shoot to this day, bu have a couple back-up strings made with D10. Shawn
Heard that ultracam is no more.
D10 for me
Had both strings. Currently have 3 Ultra cam 9 strand strings. I like em better, no creep.
Ultracam for me also, once set the BH does not move
I used to use D-97, but all my strings are D-10 now. Same material as D-97 but with zero creep. I believe BCY markets D-10 now as a crossbow string material.
I like my Ultra-cam 9 strands, but as said above, I believe Ultra-cam is being discontinued. Get it while you can.

Dynaflight '97 is SK75 Dyneema, as is 8125G (8125 incorporates GORE fiber into the material).
Dynaflight '10 is (was) SK78 Dyneema. It's now marketed as Force 10 Crossbow material.
8190 Universal is SK
90 Dyneema, with GORE. It's the strongest, most durable, least creep 100% Dyneema material on the market, and the smallest diameter.
If you want even more stability (any Dyneema material will have some degree of stretch and creep, especially in higher temps--moreso with "skinny" strings), use either 452X (Dyneema and Vectran) or Trophy (same as 452X, but with GORE).
If it matters, Hoyt is using 8190 on all it's high-end "dark side" bows, and 452X is also very popular with "dark side" manufacturers.
I say this only because those guys require much more from a string than we do as far as durability and stability goes, and they do tons of controlled tests to see which materials make the grade. Noise reduction is also very important.
Since UC is out, that means it wasn't cutting the mustard. BCY is going full blast just trying to keep up with demand--they are dominating the market.
Chad
I like a nine strand ultracam
Big fan of the Ultracam here also - hope it doesn't dissappear, I'll have to go looking all over again for a new material.
Thank You LBR for the education.I have become lost with all the new matierials. Thanks Alott.
LBR- what does Gore and Vectran do for a trad bowstring?
Alan at Lefties R Us apparently stocked up on Ultracam, which I like - used for the last year and almost no stretch and strong - resisted some decent abuse. May not be latest and greatest, but no complaints here, and need to order up a couple more.
GORE works as an internal lubricant--adds durability.
Vectran is practically no stretch, but isn't suitable to use by itself as a string material. Works well when blended with Dyneema though. 450+ is a blend of Dyneema (70%) and Vectran (30%).
Great info Chad! :clapper:

Thanks Will. I just picked up a few more spools of Ultra Cam. I don't know why Brownell decided to discontinue it, but I still fell it makes one of the best strings- especially if you want a skinny string.
Thanks for the response Chad.
Glad this topic came up..I'm not really a fan of skinny strings but if a fella wanted to make a regular string using BCY8190 or 452x,how many strands would you use and not make a skinny string and what size serving would you use for the ole snap on nocks ??
I don't care for "skinny" strings either--never saw any real benefits to them on my bows, don't care at all for the reduced durability/increased stretch/creep.
I do very much like 8190. 16-18 strands in the string makes a moderate size string--I like the loops padded to 22-24 in flemish.
Serving size depends on how you like the nock to fit, the exact type nock, and how many strands you use. Generally speaking, .021, .024, or .025 should work just fine. I'd start with .021, and if you need to you can build up the nock point with dental floss.
I haven't tinkered with 452X much at all, so I can't make suggestions there. I do know it's one of BCY's most popular materials.

Thanks Chad, I still have some of the old "FAST Flight" material but was wanting to try the newer stuff,I'll have to read up on padded loops,I've only made really straight forward strings,no padded loops or padded servings I guess for a better word..
Padded loops are simple, and will quieten a flemish string.
I never really liked the skinny ones either until trying a D10 8 strand. Now all my bows wear them. BILL
I've really liked the ultracam since I was turned on to it about 2 years ago, but I just got a new string from my guy that is made from a new material called rhino. I like it even better than the ultracam.
Give 8190 a try. I just received a 8190 endless loop string with angel majesty serving and it is awesome. Tried a few strings and this stuff is the bomb and let me jump up a spine :)
Good stuff
Thanks
If you are a string maker and use something other than BCY, give me a holler so I can get you some samples; or if you know a string maker that would be interested in trying BCY have them contact me. I think that once you give BCY a chance, you'll be hooked.
