My wife and I quit smoking yesterday, creating a hunting fund with the $ I save. We are moving to Missoula Montana in August, looking into some top of the line glass as a "carrot" to strive for. Was reading a bunch of reviews, and according to allbinos.com, the Leica Ultravids 10x42 HD scored the highest. I found a great price on a pair, just wondering if anybody has used these particular binos, or if you use a differnt top of the line pair of binos?
My dad has Swarovski el 10x42 they are awesome! I have leupold gold ring they are awesome as well, when you spend that kind of money on binos it doesn't really matter which brand you get they are all top notch I was going to get a pair of zeiss, but found the gold rings used for too good of a price! Good luck to you on your search
Do not know about the glasses, but you are going to love the way you feel, pokin' around the alpine without your lungs working over-time. Air is thin to begin with. No sense living in the wide open spaces and not being in shape to enjoy it. DO NOT EVER PICK UP ANOTHER SMOKE-STICK!
p.s. Get yourself some great Leupold binos and use the extra cash to get a great Leupold spotting scope--with any luck at all, you will need BOTH!!!
man, could a fella buy a lot of archery stuff, on just $5.00 daily x 365days = $1780.00 x 10 years = 17800.00 maybe the jeep to get to the lease. If its both of you WOW....
Ha Mike they used to be 5/day, was up to 7 and some change on Sunday! She will save her portion for some nice clothes I would think haha! But yes it is a boat load of $ that was being thrown away, glad we decided to quit before we turn 25 or else that could have turned into a 50 year habit :knothead:
Don't have them but anything Leica will be GOOD stuff. You can see a lot of stuff at 10X with good glass, even if it's BIG COUNTRY.
vortex are great also that's what i have been using for a while and for the price i dont think you can beat them
I always figured it'd be tough to tell the differences between the best glass. It's probably tough to find a place to try them out against each other as well.
I bet you can't go wrong with those Leicas as long as they aren't too heavy and you like the feel of them.
I'm really happy with my Steiner 7x50 and 6x30. The smaller pair are very nice to carry and the bigger pair is super clear.
I have a pair of Leica 10X42. They are great glasses. But because of weight I preferred the 8X 30 SLC SWAROVSKI that I had previous to buying the Leica. Maybe if I hunted solely out west it might be different but where I normally hunt I'd like my Swarovski glasses back.
Moving to Missoula you say? Glad to hear another trad ganger is coming this way. You should love it here!
Per the glass, I use Vortex, but Leica is supposed to be awesome as well. I really doubt you will ever regret spending the money on any top notch pair of glass. I highly recommend 8x42 or 10x42 for the hunting here.
I have the Zeiss Victory 10x42, and and am completely pleased with them so far. I was talked into quit wasting my money on cheap glass every couple years and get a great set. You can't go wrong with any of the big 3. That being said, my search was down to Swarovski, or Zeiss, and I went with the Zeiss because of the feel when holding, and the focus knob. At that price, the "little" things matter. get your hands on as many as you can before you chunk down the coin.
I have the Zeiss 8X30 and they are the cheaper version, $600.00. I purchased my for $400.00 on-sale. They are lightweight and easy to carry. I have had my 5 or 6 years and they are great glasses. I use my in the thick eastern woods and for the type of hunting I do they are perfect.
I quit smoking regularly a little over 5 years ago. The best gift and investment you can give/get!
Congrats and wish I could help with the binos.

Absolutely!!!!
I quit in 2001, and save the $15 a day it would have cost me (at the time 3 X $5 per day) and it comes in handy when wanting to do nice things. You just need to make the comitment, and stick with it. The rewards are SOOOOOOO rewarding.
Thanks guys! I figure if I buy a really nice set of binos I should be good for a long time!

This is spot on for me as well love my new HDs I was cringing over the price tag but they have this insane lifetime warrantee too that they'll just keep making them back and replacing anything that goes wrong. Insane light gathering and clarity too.
I had to laugh at some of the post here in NY a pack is $10, a pack a day is $3,650 here. I have never owned a super pair of Binos, but out of all the high end I have handled and looked thru the Leica's line-up seemed the best to me. That said I have a pair of the Leupold Goldring and a pair of older Nikons that were Nikons top of the line and they get it done for me. I would buy a real good pair for $400 or so and use the rest to order a new bow!! Shawn
Tons of great used glass on the market. Just need to know where to look. No need to spend full price when something comes with a lifetime transferrable warranty, even when used.
I'm all ears if you have any recommendations Mr. Vines, feel free to pm if you'd like
