As some of you know I have been waiting for my new Tuktu EX which is Abe Penners(Caribow)newest recurve. It has static tips and all I can say is WOW!! I took it out of the box, strung it up using the provided stringer (with the hooks on this one, no way would I try any other way!!)and grabbed some arrows I thought would be darn close to the spine and weight I wanted. First off the fit and finish on this bow is second to none, I mean it is stunning!! It is 54#s at 28"s and the way the bow is designed I draw it exactly that. Second it is an absolute smoker. I will chrono tomorrow just to see but it is very, very quick and amazingly quiet. I shot at least 200 arrows since it came at 4:45 this afternoon. I had to take 3/4"s off the shafts I was shooting to stiffen them up enough for perfect flight. I do not do pics. but they were posted on another thread I posted. I will keep bringing this up for the next few days as I shoot it some more. Took me only a few minutes to get it tuned to perfection. I want to Thank Abe for making such a fine bow!! Stay Tuned!! Shawn
P.S. TURKEYS BEWARE!!! :bigsmyl:
That didnt take very long. Hope you like it.
Sounds like she's living up to all your expectations.Have fun with your new toy.
8 days till turkey day. You'll be ready by then :archer2:
Well done Shawn!
Shawn you may have found the one ! I still remember shooting your static RER and found the static tips are like nothing I have ever shot before . I wouldn't want to be a turkey in your neck of the woods
 :clapper:
Good deal. Sounds like a great bow.
Thanks guys, sitting here fletching up a new dozen arrows and watching the Yankee game. Having a cocktail and life is good. I go out and shoot two arrows every ten minutes, stand on the porch and in thru the door into my sunroom, I have good light in there!! She shoots like a dream!! Nobody pinch me!! :bigsmyl: Shawn
Congrats, cant wait to see it in person
Curious what arrow setup you ended up with.

Pics soon?
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
I call dibs!
this is a lefty, correct?!
I ended up with Heritage 150's cut to 28.75"s and 175 up front. I bareshafted them and shot them thru paper. They are perfect. I will say this though, this bow is at least 3/16ths. past center and I shot a 29.5" 400 with 275 up front and it shot perfect as well and I would of thought I would need 325 up front for it to shoot as good as it did. I may cut them to 28.75"s and go with 325 up front, this will be an arrow for tough critters, like hogs. Shawn
Making arrows for the new bow, while watching baseball and a good drink....sounds like a good time to me! Look forward to seeing this beauty.
Quite amazing when the delivery actually matches and/or exceeds the highly elevated anticipation.
Congrats!
Good luck with your new bow Shawn. Looking forward to seeing it
Congratulations Shawn I know you been pacing the floor and looking out that window for that Brown tin can on wheels ...
I thought Santa drove a sleigh with reindeer but now I beleive it's a Brown tin can on wheels :archer:
Congrats, enjoy
Thanks again guys! I have some pics. if someone wants to post them for me, I could e-mail them! It's funny today at around 11 am. I suddenly got pretty sick at work and had to come home! Weird thing is, as soon as I got home I started feeling much better!! :bigsmyl: I have the chrono out and have a perfect day with no wind. I am gonna get shooting in about 10 minutes. I have several arrows made up that weigh exactly 486 grains and I weighed the bow and it is 54#s at 28"s so I have exactly 9gpp. at my 28" draw. I will say, I have always had problems with string slap, not all bows but a lot of them(very big forearms). With the grip on this bow ot puts my hand and arm in such a perfect position I am over an inch from my forearm thru the release, my wife watched several shots and she verified that. I will see how it goes, I am hoping to get around 190 fps. as that is what my minds eye adjust to so well. If I have to slow her down a bit, I will add a little more to the string! Be back in a while with some more progress!! Shawn
:archer2: :archer2:
Good deal Shawn, Glad you are happy with it!
Can't wait for the pics and chrono results.... You can e-mail the pics to me, I will put them here, no probs!
Got done with some testing. Turns out my Heritage 150 made up the way it is with wrap and all weighs 504 grains and the CE .400 spined ones weight 554. I got some pretty amazing speeds, I hate to post them but I will when I get back from bringing my Golden(Max) to the vet, the old man is, well getting old!! Shawn
Shawn, here are your bow pics again from Abe's site. It's always great to read your detailed tuning and bow tests. Good luck with Max! Thanks for sharing. Keith

That's a sweet bow bud! Good luck with it :campfire:
Thats about as pretty as they get!!! Congrats Joe
Wow, that IS nice! I'd really like to see some pics of the entire bow, to see how the static tips look!
Congrats again!
My bet is that that Tuktu will shoot at least between the 195 and 200 fps at 9GPP....
What a looker...those limb veneers are SWEET!
Yeah, I always seemed to draw 28.5"s or so, but with this bow I have measured it 10 times and had Cindy measure it 3 or 4 times. We get 28"s 9 out of ten and maybe one time 28.25"s. Been doing it even with my eyes closed and settling in. This bow drawing to 28"s and at 9.3 grains per pound I am getting 193fps. on my chrono. for a ten shot average. The high being 197 and the low 191fps. I stopped at an archery shop after I got done with Max and a ten shot string avereaged 197. It is very smooth and silent at the shot as well. I have some pics as I have it set up. I should also say that it can be shot from 7" BH to 7.5" braceheight for best performanc, I have mine at 7.75"s so if you lowered it down to 7"s it would be at least 4-5fps. faster from what I have been told. I will have pics posted as well. I dare say with nothing on the string and a low BH this bow will do 200fps. at 9gpp. All that said I really could care less. It is very stable and dead in the hand and the best part is I shoot it very well. I shoot my Belcher/Border combo a bit better but that is just because I am more familar with it as well. I was saying earlier that this bow will shoot a huge range of spine well due to it being cut well past center and it does. I actually am shooting a set of 75-80 woodies off of it cut to 29"s and 125 grain heads perfectly, out to 15 yards my bareshaft and fletched hit exactly the same. More pics coming! Shawn
By the way, Max is Ok just getting old! Vet said he actually is in great shape for his age. We just don't want him ever to be in pain or uncomfortable, so we got him some stuff for his arthritis and some pain meds if he needs them. Shawn
Curt, just get in touch. We can do a turkey/striper thing again this year and include Cade. I have that spot we hunted Bunnies in and have scouted it a few times and there are a lot of birds in there. 7-8 big Toms on the back side of BriarBack!! Shawn
That bows a beauty!!!! good luck with it!!!
Glad to see them arrows worked out Shawn. Great looking bow!!
Craig
Fine bow Shawn. Only problem is you should be watching the Braves instead of the Yankee`s..lol.RC
RC, one of my best friends is a Braves fan and they were playing good not so much lately. Riverrat is gonna post some more pics. for me! I will say this I am having to adjust a bit, everything is a bit high, I am not a great shot as it is, but at 15 yards I have had 2 Robin Hoods the last 2 sessions I shot. Pissin me off as arrows are not cheap, 35/55 Gt trads are shooting perfect too but only come in at 465 grains with 175 up front. I will try and get a pick of tips as well. If ya go to Abes web-site you can go to Model section and see a strung and unstrung profile. This bow has big hooks, they are even more pronounced than my Hex-5s and they are big benders! I believe part of the secret is the limbs being so limber, hard to explain but I know Curt saw it in my Arroyo, you can take the limb and push it in towards string and it flexes with so little pressure it is unreal. Shawn
Thats sweet. Maybe youll leave that boat anchor home when we go to Ohio this fall and bring that pretty bow. Gotta bring us some mojo.
Here is Shawn's beautiful new Cari-bow.....

shes purdy
Very nice! And great speeds.
Beautiful bow Shawn.. Congratulations
I am naming her Smokin Beauty!! She is smoking fast and pretty!! My fingers are hurtin I have probably put 6-700 arrows thru her since yesterday afternoon. My shoulder is gonna pay for it but I am really happy with her. I weighed up arrows with 50 grain brass inserts and 125 grain heads than with 175 grain heads, the ones with the regular inserts and 175 grain heads weighed exactly 15 grains more so 190 grains up front, cannot tell the difference in how they fly. Shawn
That is a sweet rig for sure. I think u have us all wanting one now!
WOW! :clapper:
That is one BEAUTIFULL bow!
Awesome bow. Great wood combo. Good luck with it this year.
That's a pretty bow, congratulations!
She is a beauty my friend.
Izzy, the boat anchor is gone, bad mojo!! We have to get together as well bud! Maybe You, me, Curt and Cade can do a turkey striper combo this year!! Shawn
Danny, thanks bud, she shoots as good as she looks!! I made my first kill with her this afternoon. I had a woodchuck run out in front me on the way home from work today. I ran home grabbed her and 2 Cedarsmith arrows that were made up years ago by HotHap(Glynn)I had a 160 grain Snufer mounted to each one. I drove back down the road by rabbit valley(guys who have bunny hunted here know it!)and pulled in and snuck around the corner. There was a big boar chuck at 25 yards facing dead away and feeding. I drew and let one fly, just high. He surprised me and did not run but sat straight up looking dead ahead where my first arrow buried in the grass. I knocked the second arrow and this time burnt a hole between his shoulders, the crack was amazing as it hit him right in the back of the head. I have killed tons of chucks over the years and they are tough as they come, this one did not even twitch. He was about 12-14#s and he was rutting and actually stunk pretty good. I kick myself for not even grabbing my phone for a pic. but I have vowed to start taking more pics. of my kills. I have never been one to do that very much but as I get older I kind of wish I had. Hopefully I have many more kills with Smokin Beauty!! I am still getting used to the weight, it is only a couple more pounds than I have been shooting but I can feel it in my shoulders big time!! Thanks everyone for the compliments, Abe makes bows that are truly a piece of art but better yet, they are great shooters as well! Shawn
:clapper: Congrats and yes take pictures :biglaugh:
I know bud, but its just a PIA sometimes but gonna have to start. How ya doing on the turkeys? I am hoping to get one with this bow opening morning! Shawn
i had 3 gobblers and 2 hens come in from the wrong direction and never made a peep. I saw them right after they saw me. Maybe friday I'm doing the kayak turkey hunt up the waccamaw.
Congrats Shawn
After a day of shooting like you did ,I :archer2: know I would be sore.
I'm glad you like the bow.
Abe
Thanks Abe, I don't just like it, I can't put it down!! :notworthy: Shawn
Congrats on a beauty there Shawn.
Kirk,
here is the pic of the hooks from the Tuktu. It is on the Cari-bow site.

Thanks Dutch, I have been at it again and all I can say is the turkeys better not get to with 20 yards or they are in trouble! Shawn
What type of stringer are you using Shawn? Those are some mean looking hooks on those limbs. I remember I had a hard time stringing up my Howard Gamemaster Jet and those hooks were not as serious as those. good luck with the bow...now go kill some turkeys.
Fabulous!
Joe, Just a Selway string, pocket on one end and the rubber slide on other. It is not hard to string at all. These limbs really are limber if ya know what I mean? Hard to describe I have only owned two bows out of 150 plus that were like these, this one and my Arroyo. Pretty incredible. I do not know what Abe does in his design but this bow likes to be gripped, not tight but my hand must be firm and placed around the throat and the thumbrest, if I shoot with my normal relaxed hand and open grip I shoot left everytime. I am really starting to like the way it feels at the shot. Shawn
I thought the Selway would work best. I do know what you mean about limber. Also, I really like the small "thumb ledge" Kempf put on my bows and my Fedora has the larger thumb rest. I personally find them comfortable and positive hand placement every shot. Even when canting the bow, your hand is right there. Glad your enjoying the new killing machine.

No thanks Shawn. Though I don't own a Tuktu Ex (yet) I agree that Cari-bows belong to the top.
Wow Shawn that's a real beauty, congratulations.
I have been itching for a Blacktail Elite VL, and keep checking all the ads. Very difficult finding a left hand one piece to try before signing on for an 18 month waiting list !
I happened to see a TD Caribow for sale, and not knowing that much about them, went to their website. I saw the Tuktu, and was looking at the inventory pictures. I found several that I REALLY liked the looks of (including Shawn's as it turns out :bigsmyl:
That's a slick lookin' stick right there, Shawn!
Good luck on the turkeys with her!
Bisch
There is not a whole bunch more to be said!! This bow flat out smokes an arrow and I went to a shop yesterday and shot the indoor video system. We only shoot from 16yds. not twenty. I will say this, 10's are very rare on the system I shoot so the best score you can recieve is 260, but really 208(all eights)is a great score as I said 10s for some reason do not come up often even on what looks like perfect shots. That said, I had my best round ever and 212, no 5's and even better no zeros!! There was about 12 guys in the shop and only 3 of us shooting sticks and other guys shooting 5 spots with compounds. By the time I had left everyone had shot my bow and the 2 Blackcreek bows the other guys were shooting at least 10 times a piece. They all loved Smokin Beauty!! It is funny how some guys just get it too, one gentlemen who said the had only shot a recurve when he was 7-8 years old was one of those guys. Within 5-6 shots he was hitting a 2" circle prettyy much everytime from 10-12 yards and actually felt terrible when he broke one of arrows with a darn near Robin Hood. I will keep shooting and reporting on this bow rightup thru turkey season so stay tuned! Shawn
Glad you like it!
Good looking bow...love the wood swirls on the limbs.
That is one sharp looking bow!
Hey Shawn
What would you name this one? There are more pic's on my FB page.

Abe, I would have to shoot it to know for sure! You can send it to me and I will let ya know in about 6 months what we could call her! :bigsmyl: I finally got a day with no wind and got to shoot out to 60 yards this morning. She lives up to her name, hopefully the turkeys get to know her Weds. morning!! Thankyou again Abe!!
Wow, went to Abes Facebook(FB)page, the bows are incredible. Abe I see you got the Elk where ya wanted it finally!! Beautiful sir! Shawn
Shawn
We had our first crack at turkeys yesterday. The ground was still 50% covered in snow. It was also very windy which doesn't help. One hen that came to check out our set up tried to leave through the snow but kept on hanging up and had to go around. I have always tried to have some sort of a barrier to kept them from coming in from anywhere. Never used snow as a barrier yet. But after yesterday most of that was gone we are at about 20% now.Turkeys won but there is always tomorrow.
Good luck to you on Wednesday.
Abe

Darned, the looks of your bows become better and better Abe! That's something I kept for impossible. This might be one of the prettiest I've seen from you. I just love the wood accents on the face of the riser. It looks like that is repeated in the tips, I love that!
Since Shawn needs 6 months, I will give it a try! I would name her "Pretty Fast"..... :)
Did I win anything now??????
I have a new spot, I went and sat there this evening, just in my truck and I watched 7 nice birds head to roost. Also looks like we have some hens already sittin eggs up here. I am gonna go set up the blind tuesday afternoon, hope to get some video of my hunt as well! Thanks Abe! Shawn

You Won! You won! :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: :wavey:
Let me see now what was it he won. This age thing is a real problem.
Seriously Ad Thanks for all your kind words over the years.
Shawn good luck on Wednesday.
Abe
Arrghhh Abe, you are really getting old aren't you? Did you really forget that you promised the winner of this give-a-name-contest a brandnew Tuktu-Ex in the weight and woods he or she likes? ???
I wouldn't name her "Pretty Fast" though, just "Gotcha-2" (Chew on that one Abe:))
No thanks for all the kind words Abe, we have to thank YOU for making such magnificant bows.
BTW whats up with that string?? Do you like it??
Wishing everybody good luck with the Turkeys!
