I think I am finding I like a shorter longbow. I have mostly owned 62" longbows and a couple 64" bows. I even like the short hybrids. I recently picked up a very nice 66" 56#@28" bow. I find that I have to work more to shoot this bow as well as my shorter bows. The poundage is well within my norm 52#-58#@28" so I don't think that is the issue. I pull just short of 30" and have no problem hold that weight for 20-30 seconds if I choose to for my drills. I pick up a shorter bow and I am on target much quicker and it feels more natural. I can't figure out what the deal is I thought the longer bows were suppose to be easier to shoot. Maybe it is just time I have shot the shorter bows for 25 of the last almost 40 years and this bow is only about 3 months.
I don't find that problem with a recurve I have shot them from 58"-64" and can shoot them all pretty good. I am again better right around 62" but don't have a problem shooting longer or shorter recurve. Any thoughts?
May be the bow grip rather than the length; more recurve grip than low wrist, for example. The latter is usually found on "long" longbows.
Go with what feels more natural and whatever you shoot better, but I also think it's just a matter of time.
Good luck.
This bow is a lot like my others as for grip. This has a very small locator grip. I like straight to something like this grip.
Frankly, I like the longer longbows for my 29" draw. Nothing feels more natural to me than a 68" - 70" D shaped bow!
That is always a possibility I guess. Never thought about longer. My bow is a RD and not a D shaped bow. I didn't mention that my bad. I have no problem with a D shape a little longer. I also forgot to add, I recently made a change to my form and went from just over 28" draw to just under 30". But I will add even after the change I still shoot the shorter bows better?
A shorter longbow with an aggressively r/d shape, can handle longer draws and perform really well. I guess it all just depends on the bow and the individual.
Good luck and hope you find your groove. :D
You might check your poundage at 30, may be stacking. Some bows just don't fit.
I like a short longbow as well. I like a 56 inch and I draw 28.
Took it to the shop a couple weeks ago and it was in the 61# range.

Here's my primary longbow, it's 60" NTN, 49# @ 28", it's made from left over scraps of fiberglass, and a busted hickory wheel barrow handle. It cost me a little time and $1.50 in epoxy. Coated with truck bed liner. Lightning fast, and ugly so nobody will try to buy it from me.
I don't know Mike, the side view don't look so bad. :)
I want it Mike! How much? Horserod
Sorry Horserod I can't do it, it's too ugly to put my logo on. Plus it's part of me now and I shoot it pretty good. I don't want to start over with a new bow.
