I have been wanting to have a bow made from Koa the first time I saw the wood on my first trip to Hawaii. And when my wife and I went on our annual vacation to the Big Island this year I decided this was the year. Here is the piece I bought when I was there in February. More pics to follow.... That's a beautiful wood and will make quite the bow. Good choice.

Looking good!!
I did plan on using some Makore in the riser but after seeing this pic I decided to go with all Koa. (http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/klausdawg/a2a4f985-e8e7-4817-8661-5543dc40c18a.jpg) (http://s910.photobucket.com/user/klausdawg/media/a2a4f985-e8e7-4817-8661-5543dc40c18a.jpg.html)

Nice wood
Thats going to be niiiice!
Some of the prettiest wood there is. Good luck with your bow!
Here she is with her first coat of finish. Ed Kincade has made my last 3 bows and will be making my next several I'm sure. He did say that the curl of the wood looks much better in person. The limbs are Makore and like I said I decided to go with an all Koa riser with black phenolic. Wow! Love Koa! Sixby has mine in the mail right now with an all Koa riser....this just makes me want it even more!
I'd love a one piece recurve made with that.....That's beautiful! Horserod
Amazing!! I love the limbs..
Amazing! That is a beautiful bow. :bigsmyl:
What a beautifully done bow. That is amazing looking.
Thank you for the kind words. Though I have seen some beautiful Koa I have also seen some that would make a fence post pretty and that's the reason I wanted to see the wood in person. The limbs did turn out nice though I was a little concerened since I never saw Makore before. Ed Kincade makes it so easy that I get a little carried away and find myself wanting another. As a mater of fact I had enough Koa for two bows and may be posting pics of another new bow real soon.
Beautiful bow and it's cool that you picked out your own wood.
I had Ed build one last year out of Bolivian Rosewood and he went to his lumber supplier and took pictures of different pieces of wood so that I could pick out the one I wanted. He is very accommodating and understands how important the right wood is when you're having one built.
