Title: Flectching Brand?
Post by: tracker12 on April 19, 2013, 09:43:00 AM
I started pout using Tru Flight feathers and then recently bought some Gateways the last time I was at Lancasters.  I'm just not feeling the love for the gateways.  The grinding just does not seem flat and uniform.  Are there any other options out there.

Never used Gateways, but have had good luck with Truflight, AMG's, and Bearpaws. Magnus' real turkey feathers are excellent, also. Do a search for any of 'em, and you'll get all the feedback you could want from lots of knowledgeable TG'ers.

AMG and Tru Flight seem to be what's left. Never used Bearpaw. Of the three I've used Tru Flight are tops in my book.

My personal experience is if you want consistent grind, use magnus (Matt Gundock) at Turkey Flight Traditional (a sponsor). He has goose and turkey fletching and will custom dye the turkeys and chop the shape and length you want.

Check out gateway. Consistantly the same length from tip to tip. Lancaster's prices seem the best. Just bought 150 solid color for about 78.00 to my door. I've used true flight too, sometimes I get inconsistent length when I buy diferrent colors or they don't make good contact with the arrow. Never tried AMG.

I like mine to be branded by some sort of bird.

I'll also second using magnus. Matt has quality stuff and his work is very consistent.

I have collecting turkey wings right now to send out to Matt.  Might have to get a few of his now and then stock up with the ones myfriends and I kill this spring.  For me lenght is not as important as the grind being consistent.

Exact same experiences as Bud.

Well I decided to try out Magnus' fletchings in natural turkey.  Looking forward to going el-naturail.

The bearpaws are really pretty nice.
Every bit as good as trueflight in my book.

Magnus and trueflight are the only ones I have used. Magnus' are best hands down.
True flight are farm raised bread for meat not feather quality another reason  for Magnus being a superior product.
