That would be  a great place to go but I really don't want to wait till 2017 to go.

Colorado seems to have a large percentage of brown (cinnamon ?) colored bears.  They look great.

have a bunch down by me.  just draw a deer tag and make sure you have a few days to sit the carcass.

Got it.I wasn't sure how far out he was.Don't be afraid to call and check on cancellations. These are changing times and I know outfitters who get quite a few cancellations and are eager to fill them.

Canadian provinces to look at would be Manitoba,Saskatchewan,BC and Alberta. And within those provinces, each area varies as to percentage of color phase bears so you have to do your homework.

I took this one last year in Sask with Simoneau Outfitting. They have more blacks than color phase, but I've had color phase bears in,on each of 3 hunts.

States that have a lot of color phase bears are California,Colorado,Utah,New Mexico and Arizona.Sorry,I don't know anything about outfitters there.

It varies a lot in Montana. Some areas have mostly black, the area I hunt has mostly color phase. There is no baiting so odds are not real good with a bow.

Good luck with your search.

I got a nice one in Idaho.  I was in Alberta when another hunter in our group shot a nice one.

I'm headed to northern Idaho in late May in search of a color phase bruin. 2 bear area with about a 50/50 chance on a color phase.

Ted Fry used to host an Idaho hunt/bowbuilding clinic.  I believe it was a two-bear unit?

Sorry fatman , Ted is retired from guiding bear hunters for now, time to spend a little more time hunting and such.
Plus I am just to busy building bows to get out of the shop much these days.
Thanks for the plug however.

Very western Manitoba or eastern Sask.. Last time I hunted in Manitoba I seen 17 browns and I shot a black! Somewhere in Manitoba there is a line that brown bears dont cross very often for east of it the percentage of brown phase goes down across Canada.

Saskatchewan has lots of color phases (Blonde, brown, black, chocolate, liver, and black with blazes and other spotting). Pick an outfitter along a river system, seems to be a way larger percentage of color phases in those area, I beleive this holds true in Alberta and Manatoba as well.  Likely because of movement along these corridors relating to higher variation in genetics.  once you narrowed down an outfitter just ask what percentage are colors that he takes and out of that how many are mature, many times the colors bears taken seem to be under mature.
