Hey guys,
I want to start shooting 3d shoots. I shot compound 3d 25 years ago, and distances were anywhere from 20 to40 yards . What are the yardage that I can expect for trad shoots.
Thanks, Mike
about the same distances
At the shoots I attend, I'd say 75% of the shots are 15 - 25 yards with a few stretched further and a few at small critters closer.
If it's an IBO shoot, recurve is maximum 30 yards. Longbow is about 25 yards I believe. You can check their rule book. Some of the courses I've shot only set one shooting point out for traditional and those tend to be in the 20-25 yard range. Depending on the distance, I'll often take my shot from the compound hunter stake (about 35 yards). When I first started shooting 3d last year, it was all about score's. I wanted to win. I have more fun just shooting against myself now. If a shot seems too easy from the traditional stake, I'll go back to the next stake. Definitely challenges me, which is my whole point now.
Same as jswenka
15-40 most shoots we do. Not IBO. At BBTC and ETAR you will find a couple of 50-60 yarders thrown in. Be prepared for those.
same here, we normally set them anywhere from 10 30 yards and a occasional 40 yard at a elk or something large... average is probably 15-20 yards
If you think it's to far....take a few steps up till your comfortable till you get familiar. It's not like your going to win a car or a new truck....have fun!
I can't wait for the shoots to start fellas'!!!
I do think it's gonna' be a bad,bad year for mosquito's here in Michigan though. rat'

AGREED!! Losing arrows is a sure way to break your confidence when starting out
