Title: Nokian Boots
Post by: Pete McMiller on April 15, 2013, 02:49:00 PM
Finally pulled the trigger on a Newfoundland all traditional Moose hunt for this October.  I need a new pair of boots for this hunt as I don't have any rubber boots and have narrowed my search down to the Nokian Trek Plus.  I haven't been able to find any reviews on line.  The only thing I have a question about is the sizing.  They say a size 42 is equivalent to a USA size 10 - does anyone on here have experience with these boots or the sizing of any of the Nokian line to confirm this?

Thanks

I love my nokian boots they last way longer than other rubber boots my first pair lasted 12 years I've had pair #2 for 2 years now tried a few other brands in between and they all either separated at the sole or ripped climbing trees.  I've used there size conversion with with good luck.  I have the Kaira model with the removable felt linners, I like the felt linners if my feet sweat I can change out the linners and have dry warm boots again I don't care for the quality of the felts that came with the boots I'm thinking about ordering some of the 16" felt linners from Schees and trying those linners in my Nokians.  Good Luck on the moose hunt

Thanks Jordan, that's what I wanted to hear.  I hope you find the Schnee liners work for you.  I have a pair of Schnee pac boots and like the liners, they seem well made.  Better liners than either Sorel or LaCrosse Pac boots.

No experience with the Nokian boots, but I've never heard of a size 42 equaling a U.S. men's 10; typically it would be a 44.

I have experience with the Nokia Powersaw boots. I've also had similar versions from Husqvarna.
Tough as nails. I think forestry work is about as hard as you can get on a pair of rubber boots and these really do the job. And Newfoundland will be hard on rubber boots.
I just checked my son's pair and the 44 is 11 in US sizing (as per the chart you posted).
If you plan to put a liner in, you might want a 1/2 to 1 size larger. I usually get a bit larger for a footbed insole (the ones from Two Tracks would be deluxe). Heavy wool sox with a liner sock snug the boot up nicely.
If you just used the Schnees without a footbed insole, a 1/2 size might suffice.
It's tough to order footwear from a catalog.

Thanks Tom, great information.  Yep, it is hard getting boots out of a catalog.  I guess I'm just going to have to order a pair and try them on.
