Title: Home made lock on
Post by: edge2009 on April 13, 2013, 07:40:00 PM
Hey crowd,

Wanted to mess around welding/engineering the past couple days; while constantly thinking about the upcoming archery season. I decided to build a tree stand.

I mainly use a climber since I hunt public land the most. Except this year I've finally settled down a bit (moving around the state due to job) and joined a cheap lease with a partner from work. It has a small food plot and couple feeders. The bonus to it being cheap is, I'm the only bowhunter!   :campfire:

Thats different, now get rid of the rails on it and it would be sweet. Very nice job, my problem is I would need 62 of them!  :bigsmyl:   Shawn

Thanks Gator

Shawn, the rails are sort of a illusion. When sittin down, they only come up to about your knees.

I can stand and anchor down, swivel 360, without ever having my bottom limb touch.

I too prefer a COMPLETE open stand, but that EMT will only hold a person wieght with proper bracing.

Thats number one, MORE TO COME! haha

thanks guys

I made a few from scraps at work (free) several years ago and used them regularly. They eventually were all stolen. I realize if you leave it out you shouldn't be too bent out of shape if someone takes it. I really was out nothing except my time.

Many of today's stands are made in some far off land and have less than ideal materials and welding technique. If you have any experience at all you can probably build a superior stand yourself.

Edge, it looks like a good design. Don't skimp on the tree attachments. It looks like you are good to go.

Thanks Red, yea that was a middle stage pic. Idk I didn't take a "ALL DONE" pic... I was in a hurry to get it up a tree in my yard and start shooting.

Its not heavy at all, but its not the easiest to carry if your wanting to be mobile at all.

But, I knew this going into it. Like you said compared to what they offer today (over seas stuff) I liked the idea I could specifically do my own creations. Granted my welds arn't supperior! lol, they will dang sure hold though.
