Left the decoys at home this morning opting to sit in a blind along a route that a big group of birds have been burning up. No hens showed with the lead longbeard and no gobbling heard after pitching down. I did, however, manage to lure this lone bird into range mid-day by calling once on a box call and then scratching in the leaves after I spotted him at 100 yards as he searched for what made the hen call on the box. I usually have to work a lot harder to tag a bird but I'm not complaining:^)

SUPERB!!!!
Beauty of a bird, congrats!
My hat is off Gary..... some great picture takers here on the gang but none seem to capture what yours do. The respect you show for the animals in your pics blow me away. Congrats sir on a fine bird and another pic worthy of framing, cover of a magazine, or better yet.... a oil painting ! Yes, to me they are that good.
awesome sir
beautiful bird!
Nice plumage on that bird Gary, You did good on fooling him. Sometimes less is better than too much, when it comes to calling. I have more success just calling once or twice from any one location, at least were the mature Gobs are concerned. Congrats on that fine stretch neck.
Beautiful Bird! Love your pic's too!

I've never killed (or even had a shot) a turkey with a recurve after returning to this equipment in 2010. Just returned from PY Convention last night. Hope to get out later today and often this week.
You sure seem to have it figured it out.

Not only can you shoot some awesome pictures, but you are a KILLER with a bow!
Thank for the nice comments everyone.
I "guided" my son Joseph on his first bow turkey hunt of the season yesterday morning and what a hunt. Gobbling all around us early, then I managed to call in a 3 year old longbeard to within 5 feet of our decoys. Joseph made up his mind to only shoot a bird if it presented a high percentage shot (we prefer CLOSE frontal or rear shot placement). The bird never have him the angle he wanted coming in and turned to walk away when something didn't suit him about our setup. He was close to our blind for several seconds, within 10 yards. Joseph could have forced a shot when the bird walked off but held to his plan. I'm very proud of his ethics. Other hunters could learn a thing or two from my 18 year old.
Very well done. Great trophy. Great photo.
Beautiful gobbler, congrates!

Strong work, sir! I am interested in the quiver---who made it, and how does it work?
Gary,
Beautiful bird. Congratulations.
Also, congratulations on a classic cover on TAW this past month.
I've been trying for another one but the birds are scattered right now and difficult to call. Very little gobbling ... the jakes are out in force though!
"Jake Army" shot with a cell phone out my blind window.
