After many trail cam pictures of this buck through the summer and early fall, and many hours looking and waiting for this buck to make an appearance during hunting season without ever seeing him, I was starting to wonder if he had fallen to another hunter or perhaps even a collison with a road vehicle since he seemed to have just vanished.

Then yesterday while shed hunting, I found his sheds. Although it would have been nice to have found them before the squirrels had nearly totally destroyed them, it is good to know that he is still around and this year he should even exceed the antler growth that he put on in 2012. Come on fall, I'm still in the game!

Wow John that is a stud. I hope you see him this fall. That is a ton of squirrel damage in just a few months. Bad-A rodents in your part of the country I guess!
-
He is a dandy! Hope you get a crack at him!

Boy it's hard to beleive the rodents got to him that fast. It takes a year in my area for them to get that eaten up.

That's a great buck, hope you can connect.

The following photo was taken on Nov 8, 2012 about an hour before I sat over the trail that this picture was taken on. Note the rosy mouse under his right eye, I assume from sparring with another buck. It was probably the closest that I came to ever seeing him in person even though I spent many hours in the area. Yes, it is the kind of motivation that keeps a person practicing.

Very nice buck!
Don't mean to burst a bubble here, but how do you know for sure that those sheds aren't from last spring? I have found sheds during squirrel season in the fall before.
I hope you're right about them being fresh sheds though. Maybe you'll know for sure as summer sets in and you can get him on trail cam or get a glimpse of him in the bean fields.

WOW!!!!

WOW! That is a great buck! Hope you get him this year. Good hunting!

Glad he made it. I know the feeling and am checking my cams for one that I missed seeing by one afternoon. He was 20 yds in front of my stand the next afternoon while I was on the tractor. I know he knew I was there.

Well, for one thing, those sheds weren't there last June thru December. I know that for sure because I am intimately familar with the travel route they were found on and it would have been impossible to not have seen them. The two sides were found 50-100 yards apart in the timber. It is not unusual to see 6 or 8 squirrels at the same time while sitting in that area. The squirrels are both the fox (red) and grays and I too, am amazed at the amount of damage they did in such a short time.
