I'm shopping for a new t/d recurve. I want to walk into a store, physically put my hands on it and see how it feels, shoot it and make the purchase.
I like the looks of the shelf on the riser of the PSE Stalker and Mustang. It appears that they would handle a calf-hair side plate and a rug style rest, well. 45# bow draw weight is what I'm after...for 3D and possibly hunting.
I'm open to suggestions of other makes and models, along these lines. However, some production bows are known for stacking, at full draw and that's something I will avoid.
I've been out of traditional bows for a few years, but know what I want in one.

Take a look at Martin. Hard to beat Martin's production line of bows.

I'm not fond of one-piece recurves and would prefer a t/d model. It appears that Martin does not make a recurve with a wood riser, in a t/d model.
I do like the looks of the Jaguar and Diablo recurves, but I don't know how the machined riser would work out with instinctive shooting, since the arrow is farther away from the shelf and/or shooting hand's hand/eye coordination.

I have a Samick Sage I shoot off the shelf with a back plate and bear hair rug on it. Tis a pretty sweet bow for under $150
...and the winner is, PSE Stalker. :cool:
I went to the Dundee, Michigan Cabelas and shot a few recurves. The Sage and Stalker both, were very smooth, but they had the Stalker in 40# and that's the one I picked up.
All I need is a dozen arrows and I'm in business! :)

Well, I HAD big plans for going traditional...until this morning. As I drew the bow for my first shot, I got slapped in the face with my own hand and I was standing there wondering what had happened. I looked down the bow to see the bottom limb cracked and delaminated. It's going back to Cabelas!

Interesting, I've had a number of people call me about broken or twisted limbs on their Stalker's. Upon further question, I found it was a PSE Stalker, not one of my bows... Unfortunate, they're good looking bows for the $$
Well, shoot!!! I sold my PSE Stalker to a guy at work. Thought I had gotten all of the kinks out of it. I.E., limbs that came with it were twisted, the bottom limb of the new replacement set pse sent me delaminated. Got the third set on. Been shooting them for two years. The guy I sold it to, asked if I would check out the brace height, and tiller. First time I strung it, PAP!! Bottom limb started to let go...
I have a stalker that went through 3 sets of limbs before I tossed it on the wood pile. It was always the bottom limb that came apart.
Yup, this is the second time it's delaminated, both times it's been the bottom limb.
That is what happens when you go for the cheaper PSE or Samicks....it is a crap shoot. Why I always recommend a nice used vintage bow if you want a bargain...plus will hold value.
That sucks, not a good way for the big manufactures to get and keep trad archers.
all my samick purchases have been great. though I do only get them for bowfishing and my kids who are not fully invested in archery.

it is worth it to save up and buy yourself a higher quality bow. the only real drawback is once you do, you will want more and more and more.
Bought a PSE Mustang from Bass Pro store in Port St. Lucie cause I needed an extra RIGHT NOW for bowfishing.
Worst purchase I ever made.
Limb was so twisted I had an awful time to straighten it.
On the other hand, my family members all started with Samick Sages for 1/2 the price and many still shoot them.
I like Bear as far as a bow you can buy from some stores right off the shelf.
I get my Bears from Big Jim or Larry at Lost Nation. Well made, good warranty, shoot very well.
Vintage bows like Shakespeare, Bear, Martin are all pretty good too.
Just make sure of the return policy from the vendor in case the bow isn't what you thought it should be.
