Post by: tracker12 on April 09, 2013, 01:22:00 PM
Is there a serviving material that I can use for both Flesmish and fast flight strings or do I need two different materials?

You can use the same one,the best serving material (for me) is the 62 xs.

Just to clear any possible confusion...

"Flemish" refers to the way the string is constructed.  "Fast Flight" refers to a brand of string material, and is also used generically referring to HMPE or "High Performance" materials.

If you are referring to using it as a center serving, any of them will work, although you may need different sizes for a proper nock fit, as dacron strings usually run larger than "fast flight".

If you mean loop serving...depends.  Halo, 62XS, and even nylon work for loop serving, but with Halo and 62XS you don't want to go with the larger sizes.  3D is a great end loop serving, cheaper than 62XS or Halo, and much more durable than nylon.

Rick, you have to match the serving diameter to the raw string size in order to get the best nock fit.

If you know what material your string is made from, and how many strands it is constructed with, someone will be able to suggest the best diameter serving to use in order to end up with good nock fitment.  :)

Yep need string material, number of strands and type of nock to help with serving size.

Question for LBR, does flemish or endless change the serving size needed for proper nock fit?

It changes the diameter of the string slightly.  Really depends on the amount of twist in either one.  Usually the same size serving will work for both.

Josh (Oliverstacy) has been serving my strings with Halo .030.  It gives me a great fit with Bohning Classic nocks, shoots nice and seems very durable.  62XS seems very popular, too.
