I thought I'd read somewhere about bowhunting in New Caledonia. Is there an outfit there that guides bowhunters? Seems like I read about it here but a search turned up nothing.
Anyone hunted there before?
my father in law ran mine sweeps there in the 1940's, other than that, never have seen or heard any more about the place....
Seems like I recall a Traditional Bowhunter issue with an article about New Caledonia in it. Red Stag? I'll have to check my issues later.
Yes,
There is an outfitter, Rusa deer, not red stag, plus turkeys. There was a website, let me see if I can find it.
Rusa deer would be cool!
Bisch
In New caledonia you can find, goats, hogs, rusa deer and turkeys.
Take a look on website by this words" chasse a l'arc nouvelle calédonie" if you dont read French at least you have some pictures.
and Giant Trevally fishing! would be some trip!
Couldn't find a Traditional Bowhunter issue but this is probably what I read. New Caledonia at Bowhunting Safari. (http://www.bowhuntingsafari.com/NewCaledonia.html)
Thanks Chris! I'll get in touch with Bowhunting Safaris.
Fanto, we have GT's here, but I've not been able to haul one in yet. Busted off many times on the reef by numerous lunkers of some sort, suspect that they were GT's.
Thanks guys, I heard back from Bowhunting Safaris and they no longer offer the New Caledonia hunt as they have some better opportunities in Australia.
Found this website.

Thanks Danny, I appreciate the info.
Hi Guys,
I live in New Caledonia and I can help you ! New Caledonia is a small island near Australia. This island is a french territory where hunting is legal without any season for deer ( Rusa deer only ), pig, goat and turkey. You will need only a local permit and know few landowners for practice your favorite sport.
Also, you must to know that approx. 30% of this island is divided in private lands ! These 30% lock the access to public lands ! One of the reason to know a landowner...
The best season for roaring starts in july and finish end of september..but you can find deers anywhere at anytime.
I hunt in the middle of my country in the mountain where you can see and find some very nice stags.
The bow hunting gathers few people ..but most of hunters use rifles or shotguns for hunting.
We have a hunting society who help hunters for access on public land without fees, depending the place, or with a little tax where they can hunt easy.
For hunters who want come here for bow hunting, I recommend to stay a minimum of 2 weeks..For more information, let me a message !
Cheers
Great info whisper. :wavey:
