Title: Cool 3D shots
Post by: Craig on April 06, 2013, 07:22:00 PM
Went to a 3D shoot today and they had this shot. I know it's not natural, but it makes it fun trying to shoot through the pipe. You could paint it to blend in.

It's an 8' 4" schedule 40 PVC pipe and it works great when the arrow goes through it.

How close of a shot was it?  THats pretty cool.  I went to a 3D shoot last year where we had to stand on a platform with springs underneath.  The platform was swaying the whole time so it was difficult to keep your balance, much less aim and shoot.

Hey, I'd rather shoot that then the iron deer.

The stake was a 35 yard shot. We moved up to about 20 yards. Took me 3 shots to get it through.
It was a 3D shoot for any bow. There were 7 courses and this one was the hardest. The 3 of us shooting trad were the only ones on the course. I should have taken some more photos. They had some very hard shots, but fun shots. They used a electric garage door operator with the chain. On the chain was a bob cat moving. They had a 6' fence with one of the boards missing you had to shoot thru with the deer on the other side.  They had 3 wooden geese with the 3D one behind the neck of one of the wooden ones. You had to shoot under the neck to hit it.

Jerry, it was at a boy Scout camp.  It's called Camp Mack. All the proceeds goes to the boy scouts. It's in Brickerville, Pa off of North 501. It's a 3 day shoot in April. We usually go every year for the day. One thing you don't want to do is miss a target on some of the courses. No back stops and the ground drops off. The only thing I don't like there is a lot of shooters. We go to the hardest courses because a lot of shooters don't like loosing arrows. We just move up. All the targets are new and on Sunday they auction everyone of them off.

Craig,

Wish I knew you were going...I was going to go up Saturday, but didn't feel like shooting alone...I'm only about 20 minutes from there....I used to never miss that shoot....looks like they had some good weather....

I like going because the money goes to the Scouts, and both my boys attended scouting activities at Camp Mack....it's a pretty good place to bowhunt as well.....

They had a iron deer and iron racoon to shoot through. I passed on the racoon.

The T.H.E. club in Topeka has a trad shoot first weekend in June. They have been known to have some "interesting" shots on the course. My least favorite was a small bear in the doorway of an abandoned silo. An abandoned CONCRETE silo...
Boy,the sparks that would fly if you missed.  :(

Craig, I forgot to add that they sometimes have marbles and a small inclined trough that drops into a bucket at the end . You start with your arrow in your quiver, pick up a marble, drop marble in trough, draw and shoot before marble hits bucket. No points if you get the shot off late.
Oh, and don't forget that concrete backstop...

We do something like that with our flintlocks on the woodsmans walk.

Just talked to a guy this weekend @ the WHC shoot and he was talking about that one!   :biglaugh:

My favorite at T.H.E. has been the elk with the vitals removed.  Had to shoot the mule deer behind the elk through the elk.  Fun!

:scared:    :scared:      Thats wild. Hope you didn't destroy any arrows. LOL. God bless.

Yep, the "holey" elk, that's a fun one but the penalty points can be a bummer. The old Wakarusa River Monster was another good one. That hard plywood outside the vitals was tough on arrows tho...
I accused Mike Horton of a conflict of interest since he built it at his place.  :)    ;)

You are right.  Never let the arrow vendor set up shots like that!!

yes, it's fun to do something different then a plain 3D shoot.
