I know I want Cocobolo in the handle and maybe osage or yew veeners on the limbs .
What do you suggest ? Anyone have pictures of Cocobolo and osage or yew in a Schafer recurve ?
If I were going to order cocobolo as a riser I would think about a burl. The elm burl or maple burl would be my choice.
Regards,
Grouse
Jack, you know I'm green with envy...even though I got "Angelina" back! :bigsmyl:
I can never thank you enough for sending her home! :notworthy:
Best of luck designing your new 'Tip...that is the most exciting part!
Yeah Allen I just want to make the choice only once :)
The tradegy of this story is it will be wrong handed and I won't be able to test drive it.
Jack,
I have a Schafer two piece longbow with Osage veneers, I'll try to find some pictures of it.
Thanks Walt .
Bic you can stand on your head and shoot it :D
Mine is all dark, Cocobolo-Maccaser Flair with Koa limbs. When I was picking my veneers, Beth sent me some pics of Tamo Ash limbs,(these were stained dark) but they were absolutely awesome. If you left them natural, they might fit the bill. Get some pics from Beth, let her know what you're looking for, and she'll fix you up.

This is a Cocobolo and Osage PSAX BW. Probably the nicest looking combination I have owned.
Jack, here they are, sorry for the poor quality of the pictures. Like any osage bow it was yellow for the first few months and has darkened over time. These were taken in 2006, around five or six years after it was made. It has darkened up some more since then.

Please go with the yew veneers and 50# @ 28" and put me 1st in line if you get tired of it. Ever seen how easy it is to find one in the classifieds? :knothead:
Cocobolo with an ebony stripe and tamo ash limbs would be beautiful. So would yew, osage, tiger maple, elm...lol.
Any wood choice will be excellent on a one piece Silvertip!
So many great comnbo's out there, I had a tough time deciding, so I went with rosewood!!
I think a charcoal gray one piece will be on my short list! Good luck.
Keep us posted
Yeah Izzy only been looking for 5 years or so for a 1 piece schafer LH . Never have saw one , I may have missed it but I don't think there has ever been one up .
Keep posting guys , it will help me decide .
Walt thanks for the pics ,I love how osage turns a burnt orange after a while .
Jack, Th (http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s296/GregD_photos/001-8_zpsce4ce36c.jpg)is one is macassar and osage. Good Luck.

Congratulations on getting to order your Schafer Jack. I'm sure the game in WV is not going to be as happy about it as you are.
Hitman have you been giving the turkeys a hard time ?
Jack, I hear Marblewood limbs look pretty nice... :bigsmyl:
Seriously though, I think you will be happy no matter which woods you choose!
All B&W ebony ... Best i have seen.
Jack, I have been agrevating them a good bit but haven't sank an arrow in them yet. It has been tough this year for some reason they do not seem to be very responsive.
I decided on the Coco Bola and Bacote limbs .

Mine will have a cocobolo riser and koa limbs. The main stripe in the riser will be koa sandwiched by black and maple. Rough sheep horn riser overlay and limb tips...and of course the checkered grip.
Im going with the 60" (actually wish they made a 62" or 64" one-piece) and will keep it relatively light, 47#-50# at my 29" draw length. Light enough to shoot all day and still plenty for harassing the local whitetails... :saywhat:
That's going to be a beauty WRV, looking forward to pics!
Easykeeper, sounds good. Very similar to mine, coco-macasser riser, koa limbs, rough sheeps horn on riser and tips. 60"-51#@29". Its awesome, can't send you pics, the puter wont let me do it, can't access my email or pics.
I got on the list today! I ordered a one piece 60" @ 50 lbs. now I have to figure out what kind of woods. Beth sent me a bunch of pictures to look at today. I think I am going for the checkered grip and elk antler tips and maybe some antler veners on the handle. If I can get to a computer I will post some of the pictures she sent!
NEVER EVER order a Schafer without the checkered grip they are awsome !
Let me know when you guys get some pictures of the one piece or wood that you are going to have it made from .
I would love to have mine in time to hunt the WV rut with but I'm don't think it will be here until Christmas .
This is the cocobolo they are using:

And the koa for the limb veneers:

Go with the KOA. Awesome wood in limbs or riser!!!
That is some nice coco bolafor the riser !
Jack I picked my woods today. I went with Koa limb veneers with a Macasser Ebony riser and a blood wood accent strip. Elk antler tips and elk antler limb overlays - s shaped. Checkered grip of course! Only a ten month wait! Should give me something to look forward to.
I'll post back up when my bow makes it's appearance sometime between now and first of year .
Beth gave me a call today it won't be too long and I'll have pictures :) About a week after that I will have a bow hopefully !
Anticipation!!!!!
I love it when Beth calls! :jumper:
Here are some pictures she sent :
