Title: 2016 spine change.
Post by: riverrat 2 on April 03, 2013, 12:13:00 PM
Hey all. I am pondering a 2016 arrow for a couple of my bows. I know that a 2016 is a .531 spine full length, which is a 32"arrow. I was planning on cutting them down to 29.5". And was just wondering if any of my fellow TradGangers might be able to clue me into how much the spine was altered by this. I am hoping to get it right around .500 Many thanks to anybody that can shed a little light here.  rat'

The static spine on aluminum is measure at 28" not full length.I like to bareshaft my arrows to get the best dynamic spine for my bow.Your arrow at 29.5" will be less then .531 because it is longer then 28".Dynamic spine is found whlie shooting and tuning.Hard to say at what length you need for about a .500 spine.Alot of variables involved, point weight, your draw length, string material, arrow length, how the bow riser is cut.I like 2016 arrows, fit alot of bows in your weight range.Might be weak for the ACS,my ACS takes alot stiffer spine then some of my other bows in the same weight range.

I used to shoot 2016's out of my bows around 50lbs but am now switching to wood. I tried the clac thing a few times but it never seemed to work very well for me and or I just couldnt figure out the right imputs to get it right?

Like the above post bare shafts or paper tuning works best.

I shoot 2016s cut 29 1/2 back of the point in all my bows (longbows and recurves) from 45-55# and they shoot well out of all of them. Great shaft. My draw is 28" on longbows and 29" on my recurve. I normally shoot 125 grain points.

Any of you guys that shoot in my range able to tell a dicernable difference between a 2016,and a 2018? Maybe that is a dumb question, but I have shot both out of a couple of different longbows. And some of them just don't care. It seemed maybe the 2016 had a flatter trajectory perhaps.

At 28" a 2016 spines right at 61# or .426 deflection.

Now the 500 size aluminum Gamegetter that Easton now offers is actually a 2016 and Easton spines their shafts at 29".

Hi Rat, I've shot both 2016s and 2018s out of my bows and have not seen any difference if any between the two.  I have sot the 2016s full length and the 2018s are 30"s back of point to nock valley.  I could scrounge a few up and send to you to try if you'd like, not sure what I have left, but you're welcome to try them.

Jason, thanks for the kind offer. I just got in from a heavy test session between some 2016's and my 2018's. I agree with you 100%. I cannot tell a difference. I was thinking I might see a flatter trajectory from the 2016's,but was concerned the spine would be weak. Nope, and nope. They are the same from my rigs, with the exception of the A&H,and the Centaur just like JRY309 posted above. I thank all you guys for your input,I learned something today. rat'

On my current go to bow 29" BOP 2016s shoot identically to 29" BOP 60-65 woodies....

BTW - 29" BOP 2114s also shoot like darts....

All with 125 gr points!

Good luck with your set up rat'.

Shoot straight, Shinken
