Aloha Gang!
As promised, I'm keeping you guys informed about the backcountry mule deer videos that South is producing. This year, one of his videos was selected for the Full Draw Film Tour. Here's a little background info on FDFT.
The Full Draw Film Tour is a non-profit organization that raises money for Hunt of a Lifetime. It showcases independent film-makers. Each year, they gather together the best 7-8 entries and take them on tour to movie theaters in select cities throughout the west. This year, they've expanded and are playing at 11 different locations! In the past, the show has only had one other trad entry, but this year there is another by Stalker Stickbows. Check out the teaser by clicking on the link, you'll want to be sure to catch the whole thing if you live anywhere west of the Mississippi. If you don't, fret not, South is working on putting together a full length dvd "Stalkers in the Backcountry" that he is pushing to have done in 2014 and that hunt will be on it.

That'll whet your appetite! Great footage!
Nice. Great representation of our sport.
:nono: Not nice to tease ..... can't wait for the long version. I have met South a few times and he is a very nice man, who makes very nice bows. I had the pleasure of hunting with the 2011 Hope bow he donated to the St Judes auction and it was a shooter. Very pleased to see his star just keep rising ...
A few "still shots" from the video.

Ryan,I'll go ahead and nominate my self for that cameraman position ! :bigsmyl:
Sounds good Nathan!
You can bet ill be at the Salt Lake showing in July!! Let me tell you guys, there's a reason South is one of the top mulie guys out there, there is NO quit in that guy
Congrats to all you guys involved! :notworthy:
Amazing footage in some beautiful country. Looking forward to the completed video.
Have to "love" the reality of some of those sequences. When he shot over the Deer to his left just before he did the vocal portion. Hands go to the hips, head goes down. What the !@#$% did I do wrong? We have "all" been there. I also had to back it up a couple times to locate the shooter as i was observing critters. 2
WOW!!!! I can't wait to see it! My heart is pumping harder just watching the clip!

Same here!
Great footage and awesome hunt. It's awesome how he is able to get so close to those mulies in the open terrain.
Would love to hunt with guys like Ryan and South one of these days
Great stuff !!! Looking forward to this one.
Bill
WOW! I really like the soundtrack....
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
This one is gonna be on my "must have" list. Y'all excuse me while I go look at my catalog from South.

Awesome job guys! It's comforting to know that even veteran hunters miss once in a while. It gives us newbies some peace of mind! :goldtooth:
WOW!!! Looking forward for this one to hit the shelves!
Steve
Awesome video, south is the man
Excellent.....looking forward to seeing more.
We have some great racks here, but that high racked boy in the second frame is a dream buck. Ride on South, great video, and only those who hunt out West in that great hill country are blessed to get close enough to miss such monsters. Great video
wow I want more of that! awesome!
Shan, give me a shout if you're ever in the islands.
Ryan
Thanks you guys! My shooting sure doesn't do much to show the potential of my bows, LOL! Actually, almost all of the shots that I missed were deflections  As if I needed to be humbled any further, Larry Fisher of Traditional Bowhunter told me, "Yeah South, but those are STILL misses!" Nice guy! I'm glad you guys enjoyed it, the credit needs to go to Ryan for the fine job he did putting it together and to Steve Tadin (of Glory Hog 2) that followed me around with the camera for DAYS and didn't quit on me or fire me!
Ryan, Will do! Thanks a lot for the offer. Keep up the awesome work, really enjoy watching the videos you guys put out
:notworthy:
I enjoyed the misses, South. In my world that's "real" hunting. And you're man enough to have them on film. I'm really glad some of my misses aren't on film. :D
I hate hunting videos that show nothing but the trophy walk into the frame and promptly get dropped and then 10 minutes of ohhing and ahhing over the rack. This looks like it's a realistic depiction of how hard hunting with a stickbow is. I'm looking forward to the full version.
This is amazing! So wish could go up there into country like that! Although the nearest "mountains" to me do look similar in vegetation, just not elevation.
Good stuff there....I think I have watched it ten times!! If you watch close on the first shot you can see the bush wiggle and deflect the arrow!
Also, wondering what kind of "head covering" you are wearing South? It brekas up your your overall outline very well.
Can't wait for the full length!
chris <><
Good eyes! A couple deflected shots, one equipment failure and one "took off" before the arrow got there, just in that teaser.
That was some awesome footage!!! South does it right!!   We have to wait for 2014!!!! Oh well, something to look forward to!!!
Chris,
This may not be the exact one but something that I used before.

Cabelas TCS Boonie Hood
AWESOME!!!! I feel your pain on those misses..actually I've havent missed a buck anywhere near those sizes but I still know how it feels!! Good to know you scored though!!!
Thanks Ryan for the link on the hat...I am going to check those out.
chris <><
awesome! I think I love trad archery even more after watching this video, It's all about the hunt!
Just watched this for the first time today. To get within bow range of a big mulie above timberline is so tuff, to do it that consistenly takes incredible skills and like the title says..."Perserverance". Awesome job! Really enjoyed it
That is the same hat that I wear, thanks Ryan! I lost mine in Nevada last year and couldn't find it on Cabela's site. Just ordered another!
Great video. On the last shot you can see the deer putting it in gear before the arrow is 6 feet in front of you.
South Steve is great at filming the missed shots if only we shot as good as he can run a camera
Thanks Shane
