Title: Shortest Boo Bow 49" NTN Build-a-long
Post by: RT on August 26, 2007, 06:57:00 AM
Hi all,

Reference my earlier threat "Shortest effective Long bow at 24" draw" I have received much feed back from the forum and so I decide to update all of my latest accomplishment of the "Little Boo Bow" thru a Build-a-Long threat.

The specs are as follow, 23" 49" NTN, 45lbs. After shooting and when it is unstrung, it is a straight bow(with no reflex) after an hr or so, it has regain 0.5" reflex. It is built using 2 pcs of Raw boo, mid section 6mm(per pc), width at handle area is 1 1/8 inches tapering to 1/2 tips. Since it is pre tillered b 4 glue up, minimum tillering is required and is done on the side

This is straight out of the form with 2 inches of reflex

Tillered to 20 inch

Handle has been build up using contact cement to glue on layers of leather.

What do you guys think of the tiller, please may I have you honest comment and critics so that I can improve to built better bows.

Thanks to Lennie and John whom I have received advise and enlightenment on how to create this short bow. Enjoy!  :biglaugh:

Right limb, bad hinge at the handle and almost no bending for the first foot or so.

if there is a hinge on the right limb, where would u start removing wood, area 2, 3, or 4?

I would start in 3 & 4..Kinda looks like a hump right in 3 & 4 on the right limb...I go head and hit 3 & 4 on the left limb also.

but this is just my opinion, you being in front of it have a better look.

your hinge is right above the line between 1&2, so you dont want to remove anymore there.

I'd get the right limb bending more from about the middle of area 2 to area 6.On the left, it needs to bend a little more from 3 to 6. In other words, the mid limbs need to bend more. Then you would be closer to an arc of a circle type of tiller. Is that what you were shootin for?

I am also curious as to why you wanted to make it so short.

Hi BooBender,

It is basically a fun bow for me after reading the ambush Bow on Dean Torges challenge(bow that bends at the handle), In the past I have built many RD long bow, mostly 62" at 50 to 60lbs .
Now that I have seen how the bow perform, I am convince that it will be a good hunting bow for me in dense tropical rain forest that I hunt in, in Asia.
The next challenge is to select a set of arrows to spine with this bow.

Just to side track a little..............what are the diff between a bow that has 1)cut to centre shelf 2)a bow that has not cut in shelf at all? I am refering to pro and cons in term of 1) spineing 2)easy to tune 3)shootability 4)stable..............etc
