need opinions on sbd 6 strand string thanks stan
-
Have them on both of my bows. Have shot them exclusively for a few years.
-
Spectacular. The difference between an SBD 6 strand and dacron is night and day.
-
I'm loving mine! Very well made.
-
I use them on all my personal bows and the ones I build get an 8 unless the customer wants a 6. Very nice strings.
-
Outstanding quality and performance.
-
I shoot better with a minimum of 10 strands.
-
Shot them for a while and never had any problems. However, they just don't agree with my eyes, so I went to an 8 strand.
-
I have them on my Pronghorns. They are quieter I think and seem to be more efficient, but that is just my opinion.
I will say I do change the string more frequently because I do believe there is less margin for wear and tear on the string.
-
i shoot his 8 strand due to bow weight, but have them on both my bows, its unbelievable how much they quiet a bow but will change your tune a little as they are a more efficient string as well...
-
I put a 6 strand on my B.L. Ultimate, really silenced the bow. I like the SBD string.
-
I have 6 strand on my longbow (47#@30"). Great performance and quiet! Can't go wrong with SBD.
-
In a hunting bow I like a little more cushion in case of an accidental slip of the broadhead. If I cut a strand or two on a 12 strand string I still have 10 left to finish the hunt.
-
Very nice performing strings  Be sure to measure your old string correctly as there is not much room to adjust by twisting .
-
I moved over to SBD a few years ago and I didn't look back. I use the 6 and 8 strands strings. SBD strings are exceptionally well made and perfrom exceptionally well. The stringsilencers they offer and install are great too.
And Piere is a pleasure doing business with.
Higly recommended!

I love the SBD strings and have 8's on all my bows. I had one 6 strand and just didn't care for such a skinny string. I actually didn't think it was a quiet a the 8, but it was probably more the tone difference than sound volume. The serving also slipped some and I have never had the slightest movement on an 8. Probably just a fluke, but I will stay with the 8's.
-
I have used the 6 strand but moved the 8 strand for no real reason.
-
I shoot 10 GPP with a 6 strands SBD string and that set-up is fantastic. I use SBD 6 strands strings for a hybrid longbow and a very fast 3-pce recurve. Super fast, quiet, no stretch and they last long! I am using those 6 strands strings for three years now for my lighter bows and I am totally happy with them.
Keep in mind that 6 strands are only good for lower poundages till 53 lbs. Above that you'll have to use an 8 strand. If you shoot as low as under the 9 GPP, I would move over to an 8 strand.
And make sure you give the right lenght to Pierre.

What kinds of draw weights are you guys shooting with skinny strings? And does anybody know what string material SBD uses?
-
Love the strings but would like to see the serving just a little higher. My square goes beyond the serving on top.
-
I've had the same issue bowless, but love the strings. Have them on 4 of my higher performance bows.

It is all on the SBD site!

I would ask Pierre. If it is possible, he'll be more then happy to do that for you.
-
I use their 6 strand on a 53#@29. No problems, very quick.

Is the skinnier string quieter? And is the serving thicker to fit the nock?
-
I don't think two strands makes a big difference and I would say the serving is the same size. But I think Pierre will correct me if I am wrong, cause I can sence his presence here....
Personally I get as skinny as I can get with my strings, meaning 6 strands for my bows under the 53 lbs and 8 for above.
-
If the serving is too short for a bow square, are there problems with having enough room for shooting split finger?
-
I don't have any problems with a bow square and can't imagine other people have. But, YMMV.
Or you bowsquare appearantly.... :)
As for split finger: with the nocking point at 9/16, I have enough room for 3 fingers above nocking point and 4 under and my paws ain't exactly small....
-
The strings are great. No problem with split fingers, three under, etc... Just my bow square goes a little higher than the serving, no big deal.
-
What do you think of the recurve wraps? Do they lessen performance, quiet the bow, get heavy when wet? Do they really make any difference?
-
For my hunting bow, I'm using a Black Widow PCH recurve. I went the opposite direction and make thicker strings. 20 stands of 452X, .30 halo. Then a second serving of 62s serving above and below the tied on nocks sets. It's easy on the fingers, quiet and rugged.
The .30 halo fits tight on the nock at first but mashes in.
I once read how the nocks should fit really loose on the string. So I was doing that. It cost me custom recurve from an accidental dry fire. Also I have had strings tear several times. That will mess you up for a while!
So I over build my strings. I see no loss of performance or quietness. If you ever have a dry fire or tear a string you'll consider doing the same.
-
I've been using a homemade skinny HP string for years with never a single problem and personally I will NEVER go back to a "normal" string. Have read tons of great feed back on sbd strings and if I didn't make my own that's where I'd buy.
-
I don't have experience with those, but I am sure Pierre can answer that question.
-
I also use the SBD strings. I use the 6 strand on my 47# GN Bushbow. :archer2:
-
I use exclusively his 6 & 8 strand SBD strings. They are excellent.
-
Those who use the SBD strings, do you get the recurve wraps?
-
Been using 8 strand SBD's on my recurves for a while...I like 'em.Haven't tried the wraps, dpg.
-
thanks for your input, i started 6 strand with 43lb toelke longbow really shoots great thanks stan
-
The 6 strand scares me. I use the 8 stand on my rigs. I know it is only 2 more strands, but on the other hand it's 2 more strands. :bigsmyl:
Pierre makes a great string,to the point it improves your bow. rat'
-
I use the "recurve wraps" on my recurves and find it definitely quiets the bow even more. One of the bows is a working curve and one is a static tip. Same effect on both. I like 'em.
-
New to this forum and learning a ton. This is a helpful post - I have an sbd 6 strand on order for my 47# Bamboo Viper - really looking forward to seeing the difference!
-
I use the SBD 6 strands on all my bows under 53# at my draw. Have used the 8 strands also. I like the skinny strings a lot. It makes a big difference for the relatively light poundage bows I shoot. I need all the extra power I can get.
I order the recurve wraps for my 'curves and they seem good, haven't compared to other makes though.
I'm not that big of a fan of the SBD yarn silencers though. I perfer to install my own usually little catwhiskers (installed Ryan Sanpei's way) or bowhush wool. Just my preference.
-
I have SBD 6-strand strings on all of my fast flight recurves. All of those strings have SBD recurve wraps and SBD yarn silencers. The wraps and silencers are great. The performance from these strings is amazing. I had to go to a higher spine arrow because so much more power is being transferred to the arrow. By my estimation I am getting about 10 pounds more performance from my 50 to 53 pound recurves. In other words, my 53 pound recurve is now as fast as my 63 was with its B-50 string. Amazing.
-
I love mine
-
All my bows have either a 6 or 8 strand SBD string. If you order through Pierre it takes about 3 wks to get the custom string. If you don't need an unique size try braveheart archery they carry the 8 strands and Tim's customer service is second to none.
-
Got a 6 strand SBD on my Fox High Sierra and really like it. I've also been trying a Rick Barb** 9 strand - Ultracam and I have to say they are right up there with the best of them. Can't go wrong either way.
-
used there 6 and 8 strand. well made strings but I find I like endless loop strings that are a little thicker. If you like low strand Flemish strings then im sure you will love there strings.
