Title: ??? for the Hill Style shooters, bow length
Post by: david janssen on March 30, 2013, 09:33:00 AM
I have a 25" draw with the Hill style bows and wondered what the shortest length I could go with a 25" draw.I would like to get one around 40#.I have shot a 66" Wesley that was very nice but would like a shorter one for ground blind turkey hunting.
Let me know what you all think.I saw on the Hill website they do have a 60" model called the bobcat.

Thanks for all the help,

David

There are formulas to all this that some swear by but a friend of mine has a 31" draw and has  a 62" cheetah that he shoots lights out !!! He also has 70 ,72, 68,and 67" hill bows. He shoots them all well.  I think you could go 64" under conventional thinking but you could be surprised with how you shoot the bobcat also

As far as hunting you can go short like say 62".  If you are primarily a target shooter then you would go long like 68".  I settled with my 25" draw and got a 65"bow.

I have 2 68" Hill style bows, a Shrew Hill and a Northern Mist, I draw 26" and I stand at 5'6 and I have no issues at all shooting either.

Hill himself recommended adding the last digit of your draw length to 60, and go from there. In other words, for  28" draw a 68" bow would be optimum.

My bro had a 64" wapiti he pulled to about 27.5 inches. Shot real well there. I would say questioning "how low" you can go is the wrong question with ASL's though. They are not designed to be shot short. Rather, find one that fits well. I would shoot 64" or 66" with that DL.

I just picked up a 60" Bamabow hunter 50# at 28".  I draw to 28.5 and I'm shooting it just fine.

For me longer is better........I want 66-68" but I have a longer draw. I can deal with 64" if it's not to heavy.

Call Craig at HH Archery. He's the best to advise you on that.

For 25" you could go with a 60" reverse handle, for bows under 50 pounds that should still draw smooth enough at 25".  You could even go for a 56" bear cub in any of the Hill lamination layups at 40 pounds and 25".

Regular Hill I'd say 64-66".   Reverse handle 62"-64
