This may be an interesting subject for everyone... If you had all the time and money you could use, but you could settle and hunt in only one State in the USA, where would it be and why. What Game would you focus on and because you can only take one Bow, what bow and what one quiver would you take? Here's the sanario:
one state only
one bow and one quiver only
must leave from your cabin each morning by any means of travel you choose
must return to cabin at night
you can hunt for three months for each big game species
3 tags for each LG game species, 1 tag per month.
small game is unlimited
That's it, just remember it's all hypothetical!
I think it's been a long winter in Painted Post N.Y. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
******** titan 17 with medium border hex 6 55# limbs
tight spot quiver
state wise idk want elk, white tail and lots of small game
Your right Ron, but what the hey, lets have some fun!We can hunt with the minds eye if nothing else! :biglaugh:
Wyoming...Elk, Mdeer, WTdeer, antelope, bear, moose....Northern Mist Classic & back quiver.
Eric
Alaska.
Trails End 58# Recurve and my old cat quiver-- fleece day pack on top.
Half Draft/half gaited horse preferably 17 hands.
A couple of my best buds to share the cabin.
Sheep...Bear...Moose...in that order.
August and September...Three months would be iffy due to weather.
GLAD MONEY IS NO ISSUE BECAUSE MY WIFE'S ATTORNEY WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THEIR SHARE OF IT AFTER A YEAR OR TWO OF THIS BEHAVIOR.
I'd live at Marty's camp in florida and hunt with a compound.
hogs and deer and turkeys and Marty's cooking oh my.

Don, you said a bad word, shame, shame. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Montana
Sheep, goat, muley
BW recurve, Aneewakee quiver
Idaho
Elk, Big Horn Sheep, Mountain Goat
Aspen Longbow
Selway 8 arrow Quiver.
Is anyone bringing arrows on the hunt?
I want to know how you all are going to get those sheep and goat tags each year:)
My unlimited money would go into wood, feathers and string materials.
-(being from Canada)I would hunt BC British Columbia
A variety of deer, mountain lion.
60" 50#@28" ash longbow,
8 strand ff string,
28"Sitka w 4"turkeyshield and 150gn obsidians slung to my back in a little hide quiver.
Alaska, means of travel horse & raft
Moose, sheep, Carbou
Big Jim Buffalo my Aneewaked quiver loaded with Gold Tips an woodsmans.
Need my wife for cabin duty and my boys to be about 12 years older.
Funny thing is you don't need loads of money at all just have suck it up and homestead.
Can I just stay home and sleep?
... mike ...
I would shoot the same stuff I`m shooting now and live at Fort Stewart.RC
I forgot...deer,hogs,turkeys,hogs,squirrels,hogs,rabbits,hogs and there are a few hogs.....
I would probably go to Missouri. They are going to start an elk season in the near future so possibly Elk, Bear, Coyotes, Turkey, Deer, great fishing, And they are starting to get a few Mountain lions so possibly hunting for those in the future. I would take my soon to be ordered Black Widow PL longbow 60# @ 28" with arrow dynamics shafts tipped with 175 grain VPA terminators.
Oh and I forgot my Arrowmate Elite side quiver.
Tracker12, TTT
Iowa, big whitetails! Bow, Belcher Riser with Border Hex-5 Limbs 52# @28"s. Quiver, Boa strap on! Shawn
Iowa, big whitetails! Bow, Belcher Riser with Border Hex-5 Limbs 52# @28"s. Quiver, Boa strap on! Shawn
Colorado, elk, deer and prairie goat. Harvest Master longbow. My own built wood arrows.
Southern Illinois. A selfbow, my plains style quiver, some heavy woods arras, and some wide Ace heads. I get to do that on my own piece of heaven now and it is the best life :campfire:
RC, quit hogging all the hogs, save me some for next year, OK! lol
Robert you could live at Ft Stewart, just stop in and see Uncle Sam. They would even pay you to live there and all the free camo clothes too. You're not that old brother, I'm sure they would welcome you.
Hawaii is where I'd want to be. I'm tired of the cold but I'd miss bear hunting. Harrison HHC and 600 gr Sitka arrows with Mangus I broadheads.
Montana...
Centaur longbow and Selway quiver.
Alaska and mountain west sound really great, but for opportunities and long seasons I'd have to seriously consider Arkansas or Missouri. Couple good D/R longbows and and a large stash of fir shafts.
Arkansas, that's interesting, what exactly about that state?
Since its hypothetical, I'd just move in with RC and go to his spots and shoot his stuff........
OK, I'll play to......Some place out west where there are lots of deer, elk, bear, and in traveling distance to Javalina and pigs. As far as one bow....that might be tough, maybe a 2 piece longbow 50#@30", cedar arrows and 2 blade heads. Most likely a Safari Tough quiver or a Hill Style back quiver........now when is the next Power-Ball...LOL!
Here in my back yard in Pa, with my Schafer and bow quiver. Pa is becoming the next big buck state in the USA. Just look at all the photo's guys are posting on other threads. Why would I want to go any where else. LOL. Everyone is saying the wolves are killing them off out west. Why would I want to go out there. Maybe for a vacation, That rights this is a dream. Wake me up when it's over. LOL.
Oh why not, it's a slow day.
If I had all the time in the world...
I would obviously perfect my selfbow making skills and I'd have a wicked osage longbow. I'd also have time needed to make a perfectly tailored St Charles style back quiver out of a coyote pelt....
Now where to live...
I know, it would be in Michigan! I'd use my unlimited money to rig the Pure Michigan Hunt drawing and I'd hunt elk, bear, and whitetails every year!
It's kinda fun seeing what other folks would pick!
Thom
BC. Hunt everything with fur on Vancouver Island from my cabin somewhere North of Campbell River. Bring my ACS CX with my GN quiver
Alaska
Moose, Black Bear and Carbou
My New on the way, Big Jim's Thunder Child and
Aneewakee quiver. :bigsmyl:
Thom, You get 3 tags per large game animal. One per month. Wasn't that enough? :biglaugh:
Hunting Vacation:
State: Alaska in the summertime
Bow: My Sarell's Sierra but in a 2-piece design
Quiver: Kanati Dual Arc
Why: Majestic, pristine wilderness with game species that would be fun to hunt and are reportedly very tasty... plus that's a dream trip
Hunting Location to Live:
State: Arkansas
Bow: My Sarell's Sierra but in a 2-piece design
Quiver: Kanati Dual Arc
Why: Low cost of living, moderate climate, better than average hunting/fishing/hiking opportunities, able to live in a very rural setting but drive a larger city in under an hour for entertainment/shopping/major medical procedures if needed/etc, family is there, friends are there, it's truly a fantastic place to live for an outdoorsman.

I'd choose the State of Bliss.
A brand new Red Wing Hunter and Jack Bowers Side-stalker quiver.
I do that now - walk out my log ranch to hunt large, medium or small game. So I'd invest those funds in a newly paved driveway.
Hmmmm. I can hunt for whitetail from Oct to mid Dec. That's almost three months. Small game is unlimited year-round (for woodchuck and red squirrel).
I guess I'd better stay in New York. Trout streams, deep water in the Finger and Great Lakes, good apples and few posionous snakes, chiggers, fire ants, the two big cities haven't figured we're here west of the Hudson. Why move? :archer:
Alaska, a horse, custom stalker stickbow and gold tip expedition hunter arrows w/zwickey no mercy broadheads. Sheep, caribou, moose, blacktail, elk, and goats!
All good points Charlie, not such a bad state for an all around sportsman. I was born, raised, and have lived in the finger lakes region all my life.Good hunting and excellent fishing here in our State.
Montana with my Silvertip and cedars.
I would stay in Georgia and would use either my Hill Wesley Special or my Hill Cheetah - sort of a toss up at this time. My quiver would be a Hill back quiver full of wood arrows. I would hunt whitetail, turkey, hog, bear, and coyotes. Why? 'cause its home.
I'd stay in Oklahoma. Everything from pigs to pronghorn, elk to bear, and a few critters they haven't made seasons on like feral goats and armadillas.
Hunt with my regular setup of a longbow made by a guy nobodys ever heard of, mfx shafts and vpa 150gr 2 blade heads tucked away to rest in an Eagles Flight 4 arrow quiver.
well, Colorado! Of course the DOW would have to umm change.
Elk
mule deer
bears
whitetail
lions
antelope
sheep and goats.
I'd use a 62" Black widow longbow 55#
probably a WW broad head ( or grizzlies I'm undecided)
I'd also need a mule to haul all the game out and a wrangler because I don't want to mess the mule!
Now that I've had time to think... Colo's bow season starts in 5 months and 2 days and I will have licenses for elk, deer and bear. Life is good.
Joe
Guess I'm lucky, I'd stay right here in Colorado and chase wapiti every September....
Made the choice a few yrs back and am already here..middle of nowhere, walk out the door and start hunting whitetails and gobblers. National Forest, S. Il.
If I had of been in better physical health it would probably be somewhere in the Rocky Mountains.
I skipped this thread for days. Let me try...I would have said Colorado a few days ago. Not so sure now.
IF I could entice the kids and grandchildren to go with us, my wife of 35 years and I would be in Cody, Wyoming. Or Missoula, MT.
Wyoming would be be a strong consideration for me.Outside a city though.Someday I may want to get out of NY.Build me a nice little ranch home at the foot of the mountains.Hunt, fish the trout streams and bow hunt some more. :campfire:
i will try to come to live in Montana !!!

Me too but before the wolf explosion!LOL
I would find a place where there are multiple big game animals to chase, decent seasons, and hang in there. Mountains would add a bunch to the mix.
Nothing fancy, just the affordable opportunity. I know, money is no object, but I was raised a certain way and even if I had won that big lottery of recent, I would not go nuts. I would buy land, a bunch, and otherwise stay as much the same as I could.

Arkansas has a lot to offer. Long seasons, some variety of game and terrain, good fishing and bowfishing, always something to chase nearby, not too far to the gulf, moderate weather. A person could do worse.
Wyoming has some great hunting but lots of wind. The hunting is good in the mountainous areas. And did I mention the wind. A lot of the state is quite barren and there is a lot of wind. Gary
P.S. I have been there a lot and the wind seems to never stop.

Fletcher, I hope you didn't think I was cutting Arkansas out of the equation, I just don;t know very much about it. I think most States offer opportunities for outdoor enthusiast. Thanks for your post.
Wasn't thinking that at all, Knawbone I'm not from Arkansas and don't have any plans to move there, but I've visited and enjoyed myself. It does have a lot to offer. Enjoying this thread and making me think.
Most of think/dream about heading west or to Alaska, but for most there who have to live near the city to work, etc, hunting means a long weekend trip or other travel. I really like being close enuf to an area that I can hunt or fish after work or part of a weekend. Midwest is hard to beat for that.
You have unlimited time and money, and you are talking about hunting one state only........
I don`t understand the question...... :biglaugh:
You got me there Mitch..............What was I thinking? :knothead: :banghead: :biglaugh:
Fletcher, I'm with you there, I like being able to walk out my door and start hunting. I really am blessed to have the home and land I do.If I die here, I will have no regrets.Still, sometimes it's nice to dream.

In all honesty, I understood your question perfectly. :) I spent many years hunting right near my home, and never felt the desire to go elsewhere.
We even have a good bear population in my state, yet I never wanted to hunt them.
Somewhere along the road of life I decided to try hunting another state.....and the floodgate opened. Now I cannot get enough of hunting different states, different countries, and for animals that I once never considered hunting for.
If I had to limit myself to one state for the rest of my hunting days, it would be Alaska. After that, I would go for a western state, but I would have to research seasons and tag availabilities before picking one.
