Hello everyone,
I really want to try a Big Jim thunderchild but the forward handle bow seems like it would be for a long DL person and my DL is only 26". What do you think? will it perform well or should I try another type of bow?
No reason I'm aware of it shouldn't perform for you. They are awesome bows. You won't be disappointed.
Thunderchilds are great, I shoot mine @27", with no problem, don't think you'll have any problem either. God bless.
I'll let you know whenI get mine. Soon I hope!
Not apples to apples but I shoot a 54" Shrew Classic Hunter. My DL is 25".
Like Monsterbuck, I shoot a 56" TC, 60# @ 27. Shoots great and REALLY likes heavy, high FOC arrows. Currently shooting 680grs. with 300grs. up front. Can't go wrong
I'll disagree. W/ a brace of 8" you will loose powerstroke. My friend had one and he has a 26"(as do I) draw. We both have bows w/ a shorter brace height that performed better. Find a bow w/ a low brace, 6- 6.75". It will perform better at lower draw lengths.
Thank you guys, Great answers!
A forward handle design by itself does not mean it will perform worse for a short draw if the brace height is kept reasonable. Bows that have good early draw weight tend to perform better for shorter draws.
I think you will do well with a 54" bow. I have lots of happy customers that have draw lengths from 25" to 27"s. Match the bow length with your draw length and you will do better...doesn't matter who's bow you shoot.
thanks, bigjim
You'll always trade sped for forgiveness when you raise brace height. Few fps means nada.
I've got a 58" TC and my draw is about 27". No problems and I wouldn't hesitate to shoot anything with this bow. BEst of luck to ya.
My TCs are 56" and I draw 27". Simply love them.
I'd follow BigJim advise and go with a 54". He knows!

I shoot a 54" Thunderchild from Big Jim im pulling 65# @ 26.5" DL. Shoots just fine.. love it
Thank you all,
I'll probably go with a 54" TC
I had every intention of hunting next year with a 54" thunderchild, something around 50 pounds at my 26" left hand draw, but I did not win it, so I am not sure what I am going hunt with now. One of the percs of having a short draw is you get stable performance out of short bows.
