Title: Fun with trail cams
Post by: suburbanirma on March 23, 2013, 12:14:00 AM
I've been feeding deer and turkeys all winter here in northern Wisconsin and recently set out trail cams to see what has been coming in to my feeding area. I put out a Plotwatcher Pro cam that takes a photo every five seconds during daylight and a tempermental Bushnell trail cam. Here are some of my pix.

Hey Tom, it looks like you've got the same snow pile that we have on this side of the lake.  Lot's of deer in the orchards here still and I'm seeing lot's of browsing on lower tree limbs.  Usually we've had a breakup of snow by now, but we just added 6 inches in the last 3 days.  Hopefully our wildlife will get a break this coming week.  The first northern Michigan unit turkey hunt is 4 weeks away and we have two feet of snow in the woods still.

That's awesome.
I'm sure they appreciate the food during the winter.
If I were able to spend more time upstate, I would do the same for our deer/ turkey.

Good ones.  I have a cam out since early Jan. I haven't checked yet.  I'll have to get it once the snow disappears.

The state's mentored youth turkey hunt is in two weeks... I asked my "student" hunter if he has snowshoes. He'll borrow a pair of mine if we need them. We'll be out scouting volunteer landowners' properties in the next week, and I thought that I'd also put out the Plotwatcher Pro camera (one pic/five seconds all day long) on one end of a field and find out where the turkeys have their travel route to the picked cornfield they target.
Here is a pic of a young jake that showed that the breeding season is gearing up.

Even with the persistent cold weather and deep snow, the young jakes are getting brightly colored heads and doing some displaying. Maybe the big boys are getting in shape, also, and will be around come hunting season in a couple of weeks. Also have some pix of deer. Hope you enjoy.
