Post by: Steiger3208 on March 21, 2013, 02:53:00 PM
What is the best way to ship a bow within the states? Priority mail, ups ground, and what are the cost comparisons? Thanks, Wes

I've shipped a couple hundred USPS priority mail. Least expensive and never had a problem.

I prefer to use USPS unless customer request otherwise.  Quick and never a problem, they also will not leave it on the porch etc.

I prefer USPS Priority mail within the states, never had a problem with them.Keep your package to a maximum of 84",that is length plus girth. If it goes over 84" then you will be hit with a surcharge for oversize shipping,it will cost you more.

I just made one of Jack's boxes and shipped a bow this morning. It's a great way to get a shipping box.

USPS Priority mail has done well for me.  I have shipped several this way with no glitches.

I had the USPS somehow break the plastic end cap on a PVC tube that I was shipping a longbow in. The tip of the bow was scraped but the buyer found someone to fix it. I had the bow insured so I made a claim for the amount of the repair and the Post Office paid most of it. The buyer took good pics and I had pics of the bow before shipping that I submitted with the claim. I would take pics before mailing and try to have a receipt for the bow so if it is a total loss you can establish it's value. I've heard of some getting a lot less than their bow was worth because they didn't have an original receipt. That was the only problem I've had and I hear that UPS is much worse at paying claims.

I shipped 2 bows UPS and I got a call both time that the bow was sticking out of the end of the box. I have shipped hundreds of bows USPS and not one problem.

Sent a bow to Jason Kendall, in a pvc tube, a couple of weeks ago. USPS managed to break one of the end caps, but the bow got there unscathed. That is the only incident, I've encountered with them.

Priority= Less Handling and air shipment. Pack bow so it will not move in package.

I just sent a bow to a fellow Trad Gang member a couple of weeks ago and the bow came threw the PVC tube cap as well. Fortunately no damage but I packed it up so movement was not possible.
A lot of money is spent to ship items yet so little respect.
