I've been dreaming of carving into my favorite hunting recurve for quite awhile. The thought of actually digging into this world class bow was one of the hardest things I've had to do for fear I would turn it into scrap if I failed. This is the first carving I've ever done in wood. I'm still not finished, more detailing on left side especially with eye and beek. Since this is my Raptor, the bow I use in trees and tight spots, I wanted to create an Eagle coming through the trees, thus I will be adding oak leaves and acorns to the upper riser area. My hope was to create an heirloom once I was finished. This bow will go to one of my kids some day, it will be the first wood carving dad ever did on one of his bows. Looks like you are doing an outstanding job! Pretty cool adding your own personal touch to the bow.
Awesome job. Will definately be one of a kind.
looks great
That is over the top cool Kenn!! Can't wait to see it in person. Are you bringing it along next weekend?
You done good but you've always had the talent as I understand.
That is really cool, Ken. Cocobolo is a hard wood, too. Impressive.
Very nice!
Wow, that's a lot of talent there!
Super good looking. But you're a little ahead of the rest of hacks in the talent dept. Can't wait to see the finished piece.
That is sharp! I just checked out your website also, you have some talent there. Please post more as you do more.

Wow....good looking work, when do ya want me to send mine out for ya to work on ?
Sweet!!!!
I like the effect of the wing behind the center and not through it.... very well thought out and executed :)
Holy smokes. Are you SURE that's the first time you've carved wood? That is awesome!
Thanks for the kind words! I will be sure to post updated pictures as I go along. After I finish the Eagle I plan to add oak leaves and acorns to the upper riser. I have some other things I'm kicking around too. My goal is to create a theme as a raptor, hunting from the trees etc...
PowDuck, I am sure this is my first time, but you can bet it won't be my last, it is a blast to personalize my hunting bow this way. My next recurve may get an Elk scene with scroll work instead of oak leaves. That riser is Macasser Ebony and Myrtle in the 19" riser so I'll have more to work with vs this 15" riser.
JoeKeith- I love your avatar, that would be cool carved! I love Eagles!
Looks Great!
And I thought my stippling jobs looked good.... :knothead:
Very nice work. I like carvings and eagles are a fine subject for the bow. keep up the fine work
Very nice job.......
Wow Ken, that's awesome!
Extremely beautiful. I am totally jealous of it.
That is some impressive work. Awesome!
That is sweeeeeet !!!
I've been working on the Oak leaves and acorns today, I will be posting new pic's soon!
I've got some new photo's here. Yesterday and this morning I was working on oak leaves and acorns. Whatta ya think? I'm pretty happy considering it's my first carving, I'll be grabbing my next curve soon, I'm learning a lot and know there is so much more!
It has been a ton of fun!!

Simply Awesome! That is so cool :notworthy:
I love it.Really custom,on a fine Wes bow.
Wow. Again, Awesome! To say you're an artist is a bit of an understatement.
I finally tweaked the beek and eye to the point where I must stop. I keep looking at it trying to find places to improve, it makes me wonder if I can ever call it done. I will take some more photos soon and post them. I designed where I would carve so I could add more to it in the future if something really struck me or if I learned something new. I also wonder if anyone seeing the wood carved riser was inspired to have their riser custom carved? If I can do this I'm sure there is many others that could as well. I've asked for info from others who carve on traditional bows and have not gotten any response, could this be uncharted water?
Impressive!! Thank you for sharing. MIKE
