Title: video added Brand new Widow PCH! What string should I make up?
Post by: Tedd on March 16, 2013, 06:05:00 PM
Just got my brand new PCH X . I'll post some pictures tomorrow. I shot it a bunch today. It's all set up tuned up with the D97 string it came with. It's pretty quiet. I'd like to try use what ever is the quietest and most stable string for it?
Can anyone shorten my experimentation time with string material? 8125? 8190? 452? 452x?
I have some old 452 and some 8125. But if there is something   better I'll get it.
I don't think I'm a fan of skinny strings. I'd probably be happier with an over built string.
It seems like the 452x is the most stable, is it also very quiet?
Thanks,
Tedd

BW recommends 14 strands of D97 unpadded on all of their bows.. with silencer, they work great.  Tho I have never tried, others had have excellent luck with 8125

Pierre of SBD strings notably tamed my PCH with an 8 strand D-10. The difference was exceedingly evident.

I shot 8 strand D-10 on most of the rescent Widows I have had including 2 PCHs.I thought it performed better overall than the stock strings personally.I had them rigged with wool puffs. They were quieter and shot nicer IMO.My experience mirrors Friend above.

9 strand ultracam with puffs.  Or a D-10 8-10 strand with puffs.  I have these type strings on all my widows. They will change the manors of the bow completely, you will also need a stiffer arrow.

Now to the important stuff lol.  Where Are The Pics!!!

D-10 8 strand with padded loops on everything up to 60 lbs at YOUR draw length.  This is what ALL my bows get!

SBD eight strand D-10. I put them on everything. Not that Widow's are loud, they're just not the quietest bows out there. Takes them down to nothing but a dull "thump".

Three bundle 9 strand Ultra-Cam and puff silencers quieted my PCHX right down way past what was possible with 14 strands and I too needed to go to a stiffer arrow. Plan on retuning with this set up, but it will be worth it.

D10 is no longer made. What should I buy instead?

I found some old 452 and made an 18 strand string with woolie whispers. Much quieter and better shot feel. I couldn't tell you if there is any speed change.
The bow is a CH X. (No phenolic) zircote riser, tiger mytle limbs. 51lb @ 29. I draw 30 1/2".
It was fine with the string it came with, but this 452 is much better. I have enough for 2-3 more strings. That should get me through the year.
Is 452X basically the same material?
My arrows are just a little underspined but it will shoot them clean if I hold her steady. I ordered a doz 79/95 that should work out with 175 gr heads.
I'll get some photos up when I figure out how. Also I just filmed some shots with the new string, it sounds pretty quiet to me.

452 and 452X are a little different, both in material and strand diameter if I remember correctly.

Never shot D10, but my Widow currently has Ultracam on it now, and I don't see a reason to change it.

Deer's eye view of my new widow. String seems pretty quiet. I experimented with iphone video. Not bad for a phone. There are a few hunting photos included.
Most of the arrows are underspined a little. I only have two of the correct spine. I slowed some down. You can see the good ones really are flying nice.

What I use on my Black Widow PLX is a padded loop 12 strand 8190.And it shoots very quiet,a 12 strand 8190 is about the same diameter of a 8 strand D97 or 6 strand 450+.
