Two Sundays ago I decided to get out and do a little stumping. It was cold, but it was time.
I strung up the Lee for the first time since January, grabbed some Hex's and headed out the door. Got to the back field and decided to do a sky shot.

On the way out I spotted this Cardinal feather. The plus side about stumpin is the things you see.

Last seasons scrape in the field, probably a night time deal.

cool pics and story of stump shooting
A nice groundhog size stump.

Two of these are Hex heads and one a regular blunt. They all have the Zwickey wires behind them. A great strong head that usually takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.

Here was a nice dark stump.
I was trying to put them in that dark center but was having a time getting them thru the brush,as in one twig.
You thought"yeah, right" Every shot caught that twig with one of the wire legs.

The tepee shot, try to put it where the poles would come out.

Found this on the way up to get my arrow. Cool bottle. NUGRAPE - NEWBERRY PA Anybody ever drink this??

Definitely not where the poles come out...

Great pics, it looks like it was fun!!!
So every now and then you come across the "Make a wish" stump. Another words,"Man,I wish I could hit that thing!" This one was out there.
It is in the center of the photo, and just left of the gray dead tree.
Here it is after taking 16 good steps from where I shot.
And here it was when I got to it at 45 steps. I looked up in the sky and said "Thank you."
The stump killer!
Out there in the center is a big brown bear of a stump. 30 plus but to big to miss.
Never say to big to miss. Notice the arrow laying on the ground. I finished him off with the next two. He was coming at me hard!

Once in awhile you come across a rub, worthy of a photo, what do you think...

And some more than others....

I spent some time looking for his pillow just in case the "Bone Fairy" left something for me. Was not meant to be today. Just some hair...and

this. Think he was trying to tell me something?

Thank you guys. First time with a new photo account. Glad they turned out. This tree seemed to be saying so-long as I headed out.

Looks like a lot of fun.
great pics man!
Thanks for taking us along.
Good job. That was a nice walk.
Looks like a great day in the woods! Pretty good shooting too!
Craig, I love it when you go to the woods and take us along. Just a pleasure!
That was special. Thanks.
That's 1st stump(1st pic) must have been 80 yards away!!! Good Stuff!
Great idea putting the Zs behind the blunts.
Craig, I always love following you around the stumping woods! Great pics, Thanks for sharing!
I've got to get out and do that again soon. Thanks for taking us along.

That was cool!Really enjoyed it and seeing what Northern P.A.looks like.Good Job And Thanks.
Good show, and nice shooting. I want to go out stumping, but I always worry about a WCO thinking I'm out for a little post-season poaching. I guess if I show them a quiver full of blunt tips they should be OK.
Tom
Looks like a great day--can't wait to get out soon. Been having some snow melt, so hopefully stumping is in the near future.
That last tree looks like it has a hole with the shape of a FOOT.pretty neat
That was cool, great pics! Thanks for the adventure
A great day in the woods! Thanks for sharing.
Looks like a great time and has me itching to get out. Been confined to my shop target inside for way too long. But snow still covers everything here - it will be awhile yet. Spring is slow arriving this year.
Great day afield. Hard to top that and great pics.
Thanks again guys, your replys really make it worthwhile doing these photo shoots. Latley it has been a real arm wrestling match with the photo websites. Anyhow, glad you enjoyed it.
Took Lori out this past Sunday, weather was exact opposite of the previous Sunday. Her first shot since last September.

Here she is trying to put one in the dark spot....

The Hex heads and Beman MFX make a super tough combo, but when you play "rock, paper, scissors" with them, rock sometimes wins!!!
This was a first for me. We came across some fethers lying on top of this stump. After looking around a little we had gathered up these black and white feathers. Anyone have an idea of what bird they belonged to??
How about now ? My guess was a Pileated Woodpecker. These birds are as big as a medium size crow and I had never come across one that had been taken by a hawk or predator before.
These are feathers off of the crown.
Lori was shooting exceptionally well for her first time out. Here was a tough shot. The small upright stump was the target.
You can't see it the best, but her arrow is sticking in there, and she is using mine(after she pulled it out of the ground) to point to hers. She gave me a lesson or two last Sunday!
One last shot before we get out to the road...
It was a good day, and walking down the road towards home, this Bluebird left me know that Spring is almost here.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing! You got me fired up to get out.
Great pictures. I have the weekend off and am planning on stump shooting saturday morning. Its a good way to scout your hunting areas in the off season.
Great photo essay. thanks for taking me along. Love roaming with a bow!
Monkey all,
Thanks for the photos and the storyline. I have been itching to get out and do some roaming unfortunately here in northern mn there is still 1-2 feet of snow on the ground I hate loosing arrows under the snow and targets that are normally soft when its warm are still froze.
So it was a real treat to go along with you. Your bow looks a lot like mine is it a bob lee?
It was also cool to see your wife enjoying stumpin I'd like to get mine to come along with me someday :) :)
Great pics, thanks.
